The gearboxes that come behind a 4.0l are well up to the task of handling a hot 4.0l what gear box did you want to put behind one?

I've got one in xfalcons and Perth falcons. Once it's done I'll try and do a write up on the wiring involved to get the ba motor running using std comp and harness.

Thanks to the support of you, our loyal customers, we just burnt our 1000th chip!

If you had of asked in 2008 when we first started T.I. Performance whether we'd sell 1000 chips, I think we would have laughed!
We are very proud of this achieving this milestone, and it shows what a passionate enthusiast community these cars have.

    Keep on modding!

    Cheers,
    Jason

No offense intended and i do agree with what you are saying  but how many XC falcons do you see on the roads these days? Even when you go into most auto parts shops like repco they look at you funny  when you want something for a XC and they don't even know what a XF is let alone a XC.

You have to remember that most TMU/TOG cops now are my age (42) and grew up around this era of cars and probably knew at least one person who owned an XC. Out of my group of mates there were 3 that had owned an XC at any one time, 1 of them is now a Sergeant

As for sales people, it's a rare deal to find someone who knows something about older cars working at Repco now, sales experience is the number one prerequisite now. Steve McQueen is one of those rare deals.
I had a mate who had over 15yrs wrecker experience and has forgotten more about cars than I know, yet was passed up for a job when the Geelong Super Thief Auto store opened because he didn't have the pretty boy sales look about him and didn't have enough sales experience. WTF!
I asked one young bloke in Geelong for some XE door handles and they weren't in stock on the computer, so I asked him for TE Cortina handles and they had 2 full sets, I told him I'd take both sets and put one set in my XE, he flat out refused to sell them to me because the computer told him they were different part numbers so they were different door handles. It was only after his manager stepped in as I was giving the kid what for that he capitulated and shut his smart arse mouth.

Everyone i see says this but i disagree. I gained about 10% in rwkw and torque by changing from the drop down manifold to the bbm manifold on my ef racecar with 4L in it.

I think a turbo setup is just asking for trouble , plus i'm not made of money and can't afford a barra conversion.  I going to try and make it look all factory and run the factory Au airbox, plain grey rocker cover and with a quiet exhaust, so i shouldn't have any trouble with the cops. As long as you don't drive like a dickhead, have a noisy exhaust, run bold tyres and have the car soo low that it is pretty much scraping the guards i should be ok. Most cops won't even notice the difference with a ohc 6 in the XC engine bay.

The drop down manifold gives better torque, and the XH idler setup is the only one you can use with that drop down manifold and still run the serpentine belt.  The only problem with the drop down manifold (and i reckon it's better anyway) is you have to mount the coil pack on top of the rocker cover or somewhere like that because it doesn't fit under the manifold.  It's easy to wire and easier to get to anyway.

295/50's are easy to get and relatively cheap, most 15's are.look on ebay if your local tyre shop is too lazy to price them up.

I recommend Nolathene on the lower control arms , sway bar bushes , caster rods and idler arm. Don't bother putting nolathene on the upper control arms and the rest as it will do is make the ride harsher. Raising the suspension from the bumps stops will make it ride and handle much better. This set up matched with good springs, shocks, 27mm front sway bar, 18mm rear sway bar, roller bearing spring saddles and roller top conversion to the power steering box will make for an awesome handling car!

78xcgxl reacted to Gav in Cruise Control
Yes it does. The cruise will disengage when vehicle speed overshoots or undershoots by more than 15% of the initial setting -  according to the literature that came with the unit. For example...labouring up a hill with resultant reduction in speed will cause it to "unhitch" as will overtaking manoeuvres taking you to speeds 15% above the initial cruise setting. It's a safety mechanism. Any speed variations that occur within that band are corrected for by the unit. It maintains speed during normal conditions very well. Because your common or garden variety Falcon is generally a torquey beast only the steepest hill at low speed (say 60kph) will cause a speed reduction enough to cause the unit to disengage.

Some time ago I fitted an aftermarket cruise control to a Webber carbed XF - so the fundamentals may be the same for you. It was a universal fit jobbie from Command Auto Group ( http://www.tcag.com.au/ ). They're based in Sydney but as with a lot of things these days their manufacturing is done in China. It does a pretty good job. Over the fifteen years that I've had the unit I've needed the cabin mounted control to be replaced as the switches failed. I was able to source spares from Sydney and support from the company which made it has been good.

The cruise control uses manifold vacuum to power an engine bay mounted servomotor which actuates the throttle. Speed sensing was via tail shaft mounted magnets. The install was fairly straight forward. The kit came with a bunch of components that are supposed to assist you in installing the cruise control (brackets etc). Because it's a 'universal application' device...most of the stuff wasn't that useful so I fabricated up some brackets to adapt the servomotor control cable to the Webber carb. Pretty simple really - and I was happy with the performance of the cruise control. It maintains speed well.

I'd get some photos of the install for you but the car currently lives in Ballarat some distance from my place. If you semi-handy with the tools, installing one would be a cinch IMHO.....
