xbcool reacted to SPArKy_Dave in engine number
Don't over think it.
Just stamp it with the matching number, with a prefix at the end, like JG41xxxxxKD (or W) (D for Dart block or W for Windsor)
That's all that's needed.
The stamping letters/numbers are 6 or 8mm from memory.
If there's any doubt, take a tracing paper rubbing of the current engine no, and go to an industrial supplies place, to match up the correct size.

If you want to do it legit could it not be done by the police? When a car gets stolen and the thieves grind off the engine number the police stamp a new number on the engine block which is then the new ID number for the engine. I know this cause I bought a cleveland engine from a bloke that had his XA GT stolen then recovered. The engine I bought had a police number stamped into in due to old number being ground off, it was all legit and checked with the transport department in my state.

xbcool reacted to Valvebouncer in Broken vacuum tree removal
Heat up a flat blade screwdriver with a butane torch or oxy then stick it in a melt into the remains of the vacuum tree. Let it cool and then just unscrew it out. I do this all the time on busted radiator drain plugs too.

xbcool reacted to PRO250 in under bonnet superchargers
There are a few m90s off commodores going around. They seem to just fit under the bonnet of a falcon (didnt on my cortina) cause the carby is mounted behind the charger. They seem to work but you cant boost them they just turn into heat pumps. Ive done one they work to about 200hp and then you push them harder to make more and they go the other way
The little s14s like a rod shop kit i would not bother ive not run this setup but they dont work the money you spend vs gain it would not be worth it
Ive done 3 blower setups on 250s. The first was a old wade superchager setup it gave good gains over the basic NA engine, it was on 7psi but it was a super heavy charger and the bracket would fail all the time, i sold it and went to a m90 off a commodore. I made a longer snout and made it fit a 4 barrel manifold. It worked yes but as soon as i tryed to push it past 10psi it would make less power i got 210rwhp out of it but the engine was making a 163hp before the blower so not much real gain since it cost about 2500 bucks to setup
My last setup is a B&M roots blower on a custom manifold and on 7psi it flew, At 12 is was very good, at 15 i killed the engine but it would turn the tyres 1st 2nd 3rd and a fair bit of 4th on a boat ancor XF with a 245 tyre. I never dynoed it but its as fast as my ute so at least 300rwhp on a engine that was not even built for boost with a very small cam. I built it to get 400 at the tyres on a built engine and i know it could do it without to much hassle
ill ding a few pictures out as they looked cool i dont think i have any of the m90 one as i never had a camera back then the wade one i have a few a mate took while i was making it and just dummyed up in the car
the B&M one in the XF heres a video i took of it a while ago before i smashed the engine LOL
edit it will not work ill try again later

xbcool got a reaction from ILIED in Metal flake paint
I was asked by my young bloke what was metal flake paint was.
Before I answer I probly should have a correct answer
I think it's microscopic bits of plastic , I think if it was real metal it would cause rust
Anybody got experience in this field .

xbcool reacted to gerg in Cleveland EFI
You can't "port match" a Windsor manifold to a Clevo... Windsors have a water jacket through them with a thermostat housing at the front, and both have different deck heights and bolt patterns. I tend to believe that pic of the DeTomaso Clevo was a mock-up with a 351 Windsor intake as the end of the manifold doesn't even match the valley rail, and the thermo housing on the Clevo block would clash with the one on the manifold too.
This proper Trick Flow Clevo manifold has been around for a couple of years now:

xbcool got a reaction from revhead in Gilmer drives
as others have said get a good quality one and grab a spare belt ,it suck finding out that your local repco or supercheap doesnt' carry them.
don't be tempted to over tighten the belt just for the blower belt sound ,it can fuck you alternator bearings

xbcool got a reaction from PRO250 in 393 cleveland
I agree with the efi and 500 is heaps
My xb runs a 393 with efi and makes a lazy 400 @ the wheels which is probly 550 at the engine maybe more and it's under the bonnet and a steeter not really a racer
Engine us getting on in age too
I just think 500 could be 600 for the same bucks and be just as streetable
Just my 2cents worth

xbcool got a reaction from mcfly94 in 393 cleveland
Yeah 600hp years ago was unpleasant on the street and basically race
But with technology and better cams etc its not that big a deal
But your spot on for a smooth undercammed car by putting a turbo or an under bonnet blower on it

xbcool reacted to ILIED in Airbagged falcon
I hope I dont appear to be condescending, but in Sedans, only XD came out with Leafs springs, so it isn't an XE.
As Steve says, it might just be XD with XE front.
Check you ID tags in the enginebay, it should say.
.
I cant help but think the worst when I see this, You dont know the history, You dont know that only XDs have leaf springs. I really hope someone hasn't done you over and sold you something plated wrong, unplated or reshelled a stat writeoff.
.
Check the plates and let us know
