    • Cool might have a properly look when I get home from work.   The flywheel splines are different from the 3 speed to the T5, but it was no biggie, had a spare XF flywheel so while everything was off, had it swapped over.
    • on the V8 XEs i have seen the XF pump (same type as XG) mounted to the XE V8 bracket, (XE 6cyl you have currently is same as the V8 pump)
so it may be fairly easy to fit, if not a direct bolt up.. I've seen it many times on the V8s. (not sure about belt alignment etc but it's likely possible.

99% sure the hose fitting is different, but it might screw into the XE adapter at the pump.. can't remember.

i know the 3 speed clutch splines are different to the T5/single rail. but expected the flywheel to be same otherwise, been a long long time since i've seen an XB set up though.
    • With that said if the fitting doesn't fit the XG pump I'll just bite the bullet and buy a new XE style pump....been spending big time on this car might as well keep going at this point...Wifes already unhappy at the costs lol   But at least I let her drive it...
    • Sorry, that meant to say needed to fit an XF flywheel and clutch as the XB flywheel was different and wouldnt allow the later 5 speed style Exedy clutch plate to bolt to it.   If you look closely at the pics you will see that flexible hoses have been used instead of the steel lines that normally are used, they dont look as tidy but I can change the pump over without changing the lines, hopefully the XG pump will bolt up to the brackets, I haven't tried it yet, I just wanted to get the car on the road and take it for a drive.
    • leave it as is, would be perfect as is i bet for Me.   the XE power steering pump (fitted now) don't like being run low on oil even once (the 5litre E series use this pump)
the XF pump/bracket is a bolt on, and will need a new hose or at least adapted but are a better pump.. (also look more oldschool than the XE one being metal cased) they are quieter and more forgiving/reliable.  (even the XB era power steering pumps are better than that XE one for noise, but they are rare.. do look the part when fitted to a log engine though)   later XF flywheel and clutch is going to be the same as what's in it now other than you'd need to drill the flywheel to crank bolt holes bigger from memory. what's the reason you think this needs changing?
you can drill the flywheel for the 6 bolt e series pressure plate from memory, but i don't think they are much better in clamping force anyway than a 30% heavier aftermarket XA- XF clutch plate/cover that bolts on to what's in it now.
    • The power steering pump is a bit whiney and probably wants replacing, but it does the job for now, I'll get around to sorting that out shortly. Fitting the T5 was a bit of drama, needed to replace the flywheel and the clutch with a later XF one, but the hydraulic mechanism was retained and works really well, nice and smooth.   we had to redo the passenger side of the exhaust as were it came out of the extractors and crossed under the gearbox hit on the body of the T5 and required modding to clear the gearbox.   I probably spent wayyy to much money getting the work done but it's been totally worth it in terms of how much better the car drives now, it's become such a mild mannered cruiser now....just cant get the smile off my face every time I chuck around Wagga in it.   /end Brag
    • Well just thought I'd give an update, it's been a little while, things have been going slow for a bit but we got back on track last week and the car is back on the road now. It is so surprising how different it drives now that it has power steering and a 5 speed in it, it feels more like an XF than a clunky old XB now. the front end is very direct and it can be chucked through corners without any major effort or straining, the 5 speed has added and extra 15km/h to the top speed which is surprising considering the diff ratio drop from 2.92 to 3.27 which helps out down low.   now on to sorting the engine out, the car is literally begging for about 100-150 more horse power....maw hahahaha
    • they possibly have more "value" than $50 each in some sense (not in inflation as legal tender though) i sold a set of paper notes about 15yrs ago for about $150, ($88 worth of notes) in similar condition to the above.. being that old, they could even be worth more.
I'm sure you have some other personal effects to put them with though, but it's a really cool story..

My best money story was an EA falcon i bought for $100 that had $46 of coins under the back seat, I assume the messy owner (looked like a tip inside) used to throw his change over his shoulder from maccas etc.
    • I have to share this with you.    As I've said, my grandfather owned the XC I now own and it has a long history in our family.    Granddad stopped driving in 88 or 89 and the car was last registered in 1990.    Before he passed away in 1998, he told me and Mum that he didn't care what we did with the Falcon, but if we sold it, we should just have a look behind the seats first in case there was anything that had fallen behind them...    Well, after your tips that helped me and my mate get the rear seat out, we found the usual junk. Lolly wrappers, bits of Lego, the odd 1c coin.   Then my mate Sean said, "Hey! What's this?"   He held up three paper $50 notes.    That was what my grandfather was hinting at all those years before...    Not ashamed to say, I did have a few tears and so did Mum.    Bless his heart. Took me over 3 decades, but I finally found the surprise that he left for me...    That's reaffirms why I have such a sentimental attachment to that old car...
