Well the strip out of the old beacon has begun tell you what it didn't want to come out as the car was pretty fucking bent
We had to take the gearbox and the bell off cause the car was squashed around them but all seams to be ok. Tomorrow the teardown of the new one starts with any luck should be running by tomorrow night

XES reacted to PRO250 in After Tips On Preventing Belts Turning / Flying Off
I went to a individual runners a long time ago, got told i was a moron. Funny by a big time crossy builder that shall not be named, got banned for some reason to
Flywheel coming off, that was a issue ive had a few of. Good balancer and a well balanced engine seems to have fixed my issues after 4 builds smashing the cranks front and back even lost a clutch and flywheel at 8000 once missed a gear and it left the car in a big way. If it had gone the other way id not be walking now
If only all this info was around when i was playing with them full on. I remember a bloke that worked for rocket said once when i was telling him the issues i was having, he said "force feed it and stop reving it" 3 weeks later i went blown

XES reacted to BigCav in msd info
cant comment alot cause i am yet to install one but i recently have weighted up all the options and decided on the programmable 6al2 personally
ultimate control and very easy to program, easily upgradeable vacuum/boost controls etc
price wise i basically said to myself, if i am considering one because its cheap then i can save for another week or 2 and buy the best option from the beginning

XES reacted to Jiminy Kriket in Furnace brazing... Anyone done it?
Hi, first post but I hope I can help.
I'm a fitter/machinist by trade and in the past 5 or so years have converted 6 bell housings to suit the T5 gearbox bell housing.
Fist things first, is there enough material at the bottom of the bell housing to catch the bottom 2 holes on the gearbox?
If not, there needs to be a couple of bosses welded onto the bottom of the housing to get the holes in the right place.
Second, do you have any holes interfering with the holes for the T5 bolt pattern?
If there are overlapping holes, my fix for this is metal spraying up the original holes. Metal spray is an oxy acetylene welding process
that doesn't cause the same hardness or warping issues that stick welding can cause.
Thirdly, Does the locating diameter on the T5 snout fit neatly into the bell housing already?
If it's too loose, the snout will need to be sleeved to fit. If it is too small for the snout to fit, the easiest fix is to skim the location diameter
on the snout down to suit the bell housing. You can bore out the bell housing to suit, but it takes longer set up.
Once you have all the necessary lugs and available material for the bolt pattern, it's simply a case of drilling and tapping to suit.
The cars I've converted include my 302 windsor powered xy, and 4 crossflows in xes and xfs. Biggest problem I found
was that the bell housings started to taper too high up and you couldn't physically get the bottom 2 bolt onto a flat surface, but as I said,
I have worked around that issue.
Hope this helps, if you have any questions on the welding process, just ask.

Well as some of you know my old car was shortened thanks to a wall at heathcote.
But thanks to Dave and all the time he spends on stalkbook I just purchased a new beacon. I will pick it up this week then the fun begins again. Here are some pics of it from stalkbook
So it's a 2 owner car and looks to be in great nick so I'm a very happy man ATM

XES got a reaction from slydog in Shifter Cable
We sell the silcone and fibreglass one at work and I've fitted it to a few shifter cables over the years and haven't had any problems with it. Its not cheap but it works.

XES reacted to Crazy2287 in cooling system
i recommend nulon green coolant from crossflows, it's a semi organic so is good for non fully submerged systems (ie, the crossflow)

Give it a good flush as people have already mentioned.

CHECK your thermostat before installing it. Put it in a pot of water and bring it slowly to the boil, check the temperature it opens and make sure it is within specification. i have had a thermostat kill an engine before when it was dodgy brand new right out of the packet, and didnt open till the engine was VERY hot, then when it opened the cold water went into a very hot engine and warped the head from the sudden change in temp.

ALL my thermostats i do this too now, It improves the accuracy and response, I personally recommend this mod for all thermostats on a crossflow:
