I have got them on my XC and they are great. Changed the ride dramatically form the rough riding 17" to nice comfy ride now.

Why dont you use an FM modulator to feed the signal from your blue tooth, ipad or what ever to your premium stereo.

Your compression rings are probably worn but your oil control rings might still be doing their job. You could do a compression test to confirm, you want over 100 psi in each cylinder for it to be deemed healthy. If that's no good, a rebuild is on the cards. Try some thicker oil for now to see if that makes a difference.
 
An engine flush may either make things better by freeing up a stuck ring, or worse by cleaning the carbon build-up from the sides of the pistons. That's entirely your call.
 
Try the "Italian tuneup". Get on a stretch of road, put it in 2nd and give it heaps, (I mean flat to the boards) back off and go again a few times. This has a tendency to free up things and blow gunk out the exhaust. You know you've done something good when you come to a stop; your idle will be a tad higher.

well i was just sitting here thinking if its worth getting a tablet to try out my idea and then i remembered a spare one i had in the cupboard - 7" Samsung Galaxy with 8 gig memory.

yep shove a 100 cell on it, all falcons up to BF can run them,
run one on my XF & AU

Depending on cars running a 100 cell cat can bring up fault codes, on a xg I dare say you would have zero issues.

I've just always used RDA as they are cheap on eBay. Never had a problem and have bearing cups already fitted. Usually fit slotted ones but the ute is light and has no power so I didn't bother.

There's an old fitter's trick with tapers. It works on tie-rod ends every time I find. Don't need a bigger hammer, just need two hammers (engineer's 2 pound is fine). I'm not sure if you can get to opposite sides on the upper ball joint from memory but if you can shock it at the same time with a blow from each side... this should expand the cast housing momentarily and break the seal. Then use your usual tools/method & it should come out.
