    gas wont freeze up when its cold,
    cold does cause issues sometimes, usually with the crap thats in the converter(waxy by product in the gas builds up over time) when its cold, the wax stiffens and valves cant open.
    can pour warm water over the converter first up to test if its this.. if its fine, likely needs cleaning.
     
    also old diaphrams inside the converter stiffen over time which are worse when cold.
     
    Landi converter like my car has is most common for cold start issues(have only had 3 issues in 5 years though) when the wax is an issue, manifold vacuum pulls the valve open as it should and the wax build up prevents it from closing, so it floods with gas and can freeze the converter.. (trick to get going after this is to turn the switch to no fuel.. crank it till it fires meaning all the gas is gone then go get some water and tip it over the converter.. or flick it to petrol instead.. sometimes this is one off, sometimes it must be cleaned.

    Nope, the cops dont get too picky with panels, XC front on XB etc, but, engines and suspension, they're real hot on.
    Can get defected here for not having tyre placard in door jamb, windscreen squirters not working or non standard engine bits. Holleys/Air Horns/ Harnesses and such.
     
    You know,...the stuff that makes your car SAFER !  Racing seats, Harnesses, bigger brakes, low profile tyres...........
     
    But, Granny Ethel can drive her 180B down the road with the front guard flaping in the breeze, and rust holes in the boot, so big, you can see the back seat. But at least it's standard.

    racing seat and racing harness,s i can see the problem here as a lot of people dont have a clue ,on how to safely mount said  items,lol
    many years ago i was looking at this guys car its polished roll cage had blue tack holding it to the floor ,?

    Seriously, with all the fun of Regency (Vehicle Inspection centre in SA), Mods to the firewall, changing the loom, mounts, springs, V8 dash conversion.............it's probly a cheaper option. If you like the XF a lot, the front panels will swap onto XD/XE.

    Exactly.  Our pollies have that many do gooders pissing in their ear you'd swear they're into watersports and piss enemas.  That' what really goes on in the members lounge or on the backbench after hours.
     
    The seats issue I'd say a 70/30 chance of you being fucked in the arse with a barstard file.  They'll say it doesn't use the factory approved mounts and that a hole in the floor pan or brace wasn't engineered for them.
     
    They have a list of approved engineers, best to deal with them as they know what transport sa want, and vice versa.  Its all a bit incestuous and nepotistic but thats SA for you.  Its like a legal form of bribery.
     
    SA - don't bother knocking unless ya know someone, or a inventive serial killer.  Otherwise fuck off and go deal with a more progressive part of the country like Victoria and NSW.
     
    And they wonder why business doesn't come here...
     
    Anyway I've digressed off into a rant.

    yeah well over here and esp SA, its a c*nt to mod cars as the government has these little do-gooders in their ear and bit*h moan and complain if anything is changed from factory. There was a huge thing over here couple years back about people getting American classics and couldn't them registered because they weren't in the factory ordered colour scheme or had a cd player in place of the old AM stereo. Itsjust a joke. the crap they label under 'roadworthiness' has nothing to safety

    ohwell i pulled the head off and i found crap all through the cylinders. they still look good only a bit of surface rust and corrosion. the engine been stored not far from the beach so sort of what i expected. going to try wire brushing it out and wd40 it give it another spin.
    came with a top end rebuild kit go figure
     i left a mixture of atf and wd40 in the cylinders going to let it soak over night

    Ef and early El are the same, late El.used a Au style head and crank, without the longer con rods (if you see an El engine with the prefix wr2axxx cat into it it's an Au style head with 1.8:1 ratio rockers compared to the earlier 2:1 ratio) and the camshafts don't interchange between the two ratios, Ef or El cam be set up for a distributor or coil packs (ea- can also be setup for coil packs but it requires a Ef/El timing cover, also to change from v belts to sepentine belt requires Ef/El timing cover and balancer *note v belts cannot be used with a Ef/El timing cover with stock brackets) pre Au: ea's have the strongest rods, ef's have the best crank (12 counterweights compared to 8 on all other e series) Ef/El blocks are better as they have oil restrictors in the top of the block to prevent to much oil in the head at high rpm (makes for more stable valve train above 4000rpm) ea cam is the biggest for made for a 4.0l (except xg xr6 but good luck finding one) and cannot be used on a Au without custom rockers, xr6 head use standard intake valves with a larger exhaust valve, they were also a different casting from a standard head with similar intake Ports but a much better exhaust port (the best xr6 heads to get have the casting no 93dt and 94Dt, the best of the non xr6 heads have the casting 94da). Au egas engines use better crank and rods than a standard petrol engine (also slightly higher comp, and an Ef xr6 head on an Au egas short nets 10:1 comp) Au engines can take a BA turbo crank and rods without machine work, Au rods are longer than e series with a hypertectic pistons (same advantage as using 3.3 rods in a 4.1 or 302 rods in a 351) a really nice Combo (what some of you will remember I had in my xh) is Au egas short motor, Ef xr6 head, ea cam, El intake with a set of extractors and a tune made 178 rwkw for less than $600

    You will mind if they're flat out non stop... Your car won't warm up and run properly if they are. Also it'd most likely kill your battery, a normal XF alt will struggle with the drain of thermos.
     
    You can either have them on a manual switch or wired to a thermostatic switch. You'd also need a relay.

    Call an engineer to be sure,but I think being such a late model xf van they will knock it on the head due to emissions.
