SLO247 reacted to Michael Charalambous in 351c oil leak
Hey guys inspected the car today, the leak has stopped and oil is still full so not to major of a leak. Following the leak up its coming from the passenger side rocker cover so i will replace the gaskets  try get rubber ones and silcone them to stop the leak. If it continues to leak ill jack the car up while the leak is happening to trace it in the act. Thanks for all your help boys much appreciated.

SLO247 reacted to NZXD in 4RCFED XF Ghia
Thought I put up a small build that I'm under taking on the XF Ghia, originally I wanted to keep it 100% original so that meant no LS or Barra swaps.

So after reading through a number of turbo crossflow builds and write ups that is the direction I am taking.

So to date I have the following parts:

Crossflow turbo manifold - individual runner style.
    3 inch dump pipe.
    External waste gate.
    42lb injectors
    Walbro fuel pump
    600mm x 300mm fmic

Next to be purchased over the next two weeks.
Turbo - not sure exactly which.
    Intercooler piping.
    Microtech LT10c ECU

I have located a C4 and Crossy bellhousing which is located in Darwin - thanks to Xelisty.

    Any advise is greatly appreciated.

So i did a bit of modifying!

And as you can see in the first pic the bumper only had 1 cut out so i made another.

I should do a build thread. I have been working on this for 3 months now. I cut the rust from a 1979 f100 and took this licenced zh as payment.

I had to do some minor repairs a little while ago to my little microphone i use with the GoPro, so last saturday when I took the Escort out to the RSOCV dyno day, i figured it would be a good time to test the mic.

This is a bit of footage i took when merging back onto east link after a quick stop to check temps. see when its running the right temp, its smooth, and happy to rev. 1300 Kent at full noise turning over at 5000rpm, is just a nice sound if you ask me

edit: *i apologise for the wind noise, i forgot to wind up my window*

Engine uses oil and smokes too much, especially for 70,00 km.

So... heads are off, have been stripped and inspected.

    1) Engine is pretty clean inside, probably because it's always getting fresh oil from needing to top it up

    2) Oil deposits in exhaust port

    3) Chambers were all like this. Plugs fouled but somehow ran fine (the MSD probably helped)

    4) Weird scoring on one seat, either from new or from the valve face

    5) Seriously crap daggy bits inside the ports

    6) Anyone who likes umbrella seals, take a geez at this. Every one was at least split in 3 places, some smashed or missing the tops. I reckon they'd be softer if made from bakelite. At 70,000 km, that is rubbish

    7) My head jig, for both disassembly and porting. The idea is that I can have both heads and all the ports lined up so I can be consistent with each shaping operation.

attempting to repair this thread.. picture dump, will try edit it when i can find the info for each pic
    some copy/pasted info here
the plugs dont plug up is the main issue.. i made a hybrid adaptor for mine.. although you could hard wire it in(needing a loom section from an EA or EB s pack... XG wires are shorter and dont reach so make them longer if you get XG loom section.)

the fuel guage would probably work if you have an XF wagon or ute/van and fitted an EA EB wagon fuel tank(if the sender isnt a straight swap?) or an XG/XH fuel tank to the XF ute/van in same way.

the oil pressure sender is different resistance i think, so use an EA/EB spack one etc

My local instrument joint told me they could work out a way to get the fuel guage working, would be by fitting a universal sender to the XF tank.. assume cost would be $100?

i get around the fuel guage issue by fitting an XF GL fuel guage to the EA s pack cluster.. (polarity is backwards so you need to cut and bridge the circuit board tracks) then cut and bridge the tracks again to bypass some circuit board also inside.. the guage faces swap over directly, same for the needles. not sure what this bypass was for regarding the fuel guage, but it wasn't part of the XF one, so i bypassed it. need to clearance the backing area for the bypass wire(WEAR SAFETY GLASSES.. this was another time i got shit in my eye)   My drawing for pinouts.. if you can work it out.. good..
    plug orientation pi
all in all.. good fun if you have time and patience. of which i am out of both.
    good luck.

SLO247 got a reaction from Valvebouncer in EL XR8 heater core replacement
Yeah the dash needs to come out, as does the heater box. AC lines need to be disconnected too so you may want to have the refrigerant evacuated. You'll want an assistant to help lift it out and remount it without damage.
The heater core is the same between 6 and 8 cylinder. It's actually the same from XF-AU.

i did 80,000kms on a fully reco 6cyl cortina single rail (lowest first gear i had of the three 6cyl boxes i gave the reco mob) behind My 351 with 2.92 diff..
it always got floored from a stand still, but most of the kms were highway and it only had engine oil in the box(reco mobd recomendation.. never changed it either)

i broke 3 single rails that wern't rebuilt with it first, one lasted a week only.. so i think in good condition they are fine... they often have no oil in them due to the selector shaft seal being chopped out(due to the shifter housing also having worn bushes)

Genuine ones were 19" and didn't come in E series offset, so yes copies. If they are clean and the tyres are near new its not far off.

302 + 351 are same pistons and from original flat tops . The difference is the shorter stroke 302 uses a longer rod
    351 = 3.5" stroke , 5.78" rod
    302 = 3" stroke 6.030" rod

SLO247 reacted to Mr Polson in Ford Registered Technician Bulletin - 34 ADM Weber Carb
Got these off my old man from his Ford dealership days. This one refers to the Weber 34 ADM Carburettor used on both 3.3L (200 cubic inch) and 4.1L (250 cubic inch) crossflows in the XE Falcon/Fairmont and ZK Fairlane. Possibly FD LTD if any of them were carby. Very similar to the carby used on XF models - some differences include no return line on carb, fuel bowl vent added, and EST additions in 86 with unleaded.

Permatex number 3 I've always used, the aviation one. Nearly anything will work. I normally brush the gaskets both sides, bolt threads too yes. I've left the o ring dry normally but they can be a pain to get on and off.

I'm not sure what triggers the pump but the guages sure run off the traditional sensors. Would be very basic compared to modern EFI.

Would be able to fit a carby easy, just needs power to coil and dizzy and an electric low pressure fuel pump. Weber needs ignition switched power or run a Holley etc.
