gerg 10,871 Posted April 8, 2016 G'day folks, there's a company in Victoria that has a Facebook page that I subscribe to, that has regular updates on their new products. They're called Alfa Motorsport Fibreglass and while I've never bought anything from them, the quality of their work (going off the pictures they provide) seems exceptional and the prices seem reasonable. They specialise in bonding reverse cowl scoops onto metal bonnets (which doesn't interest me at all) but their other products, like replacement panels, look very factory-like. They do a lot of Holden stuff but seem to have heaps of Ford bits covered too. Here are some xd guards: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10153301386116534&id=77561066533 Dunno if they do XE or XF so might be worth ringing them up. I'm not plugging these guys for any reason (like I said, never dealt with them) but just wanted to spread the word to those interested. I certainly am! 1 Mixalis reacted to this

scottly 475 Posted April 8, 2016 I saw this on face book also today it does have me very interested, I wonder how much further working of the panel is needed before you can lay color down? Plus from what I saw there is no holes for bolts, I also wonder what the best method of fixing these would be maybe a nice size ss washer with a ss Allen key bolt? Cool product tho
ando76 4,354 Posted April 8, 2016 They do TC-TD Corty front guards and rear doors to..... Nice. 1 gerg reacted to this

Cool product tho All fibreglass needs work after it pops out of the mold, you get gelcoat bubbles, inconsistent thickness, warpage sometimes. No big deal though, if it's a quality item then work will be minimal, just usual minor bog up, hifill and block down. You'd need to match a steel panel the same way anyway. From what I can gather, the road-going versions are heavier but have threaded mount plates laminated into the glass so they should bolt on no dramas. Race ones are paper-thin and lack internal bracing so would break if you leant on them a bit too heavily. They make versions of both in most cases.
deankxf 20,316 Posted April 8, 2016 how would a ute tail gate outer skin go.. the new chinese tailgates are rubbish(i only weigh 100kg and they bend if i stand on one) wonder if replacing the dented metal outer with fibreglass would end up as strong, with less prone to damage
gerg 10,871 Posted April 8, 2016 I'd say stronger than your Chinese knock-offs but still are prone to bruising or gelcoat cracks if you hit them hard enough. Maybe ring them and ask if they have a mold
MNTL.XD 3,831 Posted April 9, 2016 Nothing really stopping you from putting in more matting on the back of the outer skin, very easy to strengthen it to your own satisfaction, make it an inch thick if you desire. Fibreglass is pretty fkn strong once you build it up that thick, you could almost sit a Clevo on it i reckon, your 100kgs wouldn't worry it at all one would think. 1 gerg reacted to this

ando76 4,354 Posted April 9, 2016 Cheers for the heads up FORD_MAN. when I eventually get around to the body work on the corty I'll be looking at those guards. Bonnet is already glass.
EgoXF 2,026 Posted October 18, 2016 Not trying to get a free plug or anything but i just thought i would mention that we are actually in the process of starting a mold for X series tailgates as my boss and his son are building an XG ute for hillclimbs and street use. I had the same thoughts about using a fiberglass skin over the steel ones because as people have mentioned we can make the glass really thick while keeping it light. In fact it should be better than steel because I doubt it would crack from a towball impact where steel would dent and buckle. 2 Outback Jack and deankxf reacted to this

EgoXF 2,026 Posted October 20, 2016 We won't work out prices until the mold is made but I'll keep you guys updated. Unfortunately it's a fair way down the list at the moment as we have a tonne of parts on order and a lot of molds to make but we should get there early next year 1 deankxf reacted to this
