tpak addict got a reaction from gerg in EL thermo fans on XF radiator
I used a Thermo switch off a Diahatsu as it has a 3/8 thread to control the fans on high speed

I kept the XD for a couple of years, a cheap ass enamel respray as mentioned, lowered, 2" exhaust, a cheapy ($105) set of hotwire mags, i fitted an alloy head, a modified 500 Holley and cain manifold which came on an ex speedway head so wouldn't know what was done to it if anything, a torquey little tow cam, dropped the diff ratio to 3.5, entered a burnout comp at Casterton drags, and generally flogged fuck out of it everywhere it went using valve springs as a limiter. lol.

I landed up selling the HD a year later for double what it owed me...
Still wish I had kept it tho but the misses said it had to go... ZL is my second attempt.....

Mine was oil based enamel.... so didnt come off....
It was lovely....
But it came up well.....
Think this was after I painted it and just polished it....

tpak addict reacted to Defective in Xd alloy head crossflow v Xf crossflow
There's guys doing basic Barra looms for a few hundred bucks now, use original ecu, get all the security stuff turned off. Bolt in a ba pedal and you're laughing.
Between Barra and Ls conversions car guys have never had it so good.

Biggest cost is the ECU and wiring setup for a Barra..
But a Barra Engine is $500 all day long. 4 speed auto about $800 and a good 3.23 or 3.45 LSD about $500 all using 2nd hand parts...
182kw stock..... (BA Engine) 190kw stock (BF engine)
Better still a 5 speed....
Might need to add some decent rubber too cos this will have no traction at all
And it will munch any BA/BF/FG XR6........
1250KG for a XD/F compared to 1750KG BA+
and it also lends itself to a turbo upgrade later if you so wish....

tpak addict reacted to broken-wheel in Is the crossflow dead???
then the Xflow makes more torque spread over a larger rpm range with a mild cam and good exhaust than the BA/Ecotech one would think the xflow would fucking win! Also weight .... the XE/XF weigh noting when stripped out, honestly you can get them down to 1100kg with a cage without trying too hard, a BA will weight a few hundred kg more

Bit of an update. Settled on the 90mm long Jenvey 48mm air horns. Best compromise on total inlet track length.
Also got all the bits I needed to finish the throttle linkage. I've started design and manufacture of the custom fuel rail. No 'off the shelf' fuel rail is going to cut it in this application. Machined down a couple of -8 AN fittings to go into each end of the rail and another for reg/return. Bit more math to ensure enough internal volume in the rail.
Finalised injector sizing with Pat from Competition Systems. Very knowledgeable bloke. Just waiting on pricing of the genuine Bosch injectors. These come direct from BOSCH Motorsports. No eBay Bosch going on this engine.
The list is till very long, but I'm getting there in between paying work and other life stuff.

Masked up the wheel today, then primed/painted/clear coated
looks pretty darn good with the blk i reckon kinda reminds me the c4 corvette rims which i like, cant wait to finish the other 3.
Is there a way to wash or clean the polishing Wheels?

Just some of the math that goes on.... I've had a play with the fuel rail and nothing factory FORD suits, which is a bit of a bummer but cool as well. I've worked out what I'm going to do for a rail and I will be making my own out of bits and pieces of genuine ford itmes. Yeah I could make a billet rail out of alloy, but that's not my style.
I've got all the spacing sorted. Time to order some fittings and the also the JENVEY ram horns, as I've settled on inlet tract length. Should be really interesting in here this time next week.

Heres what the wheel looks like after todays effort, tomorrow i will give it a bit more of polish then scuff the grey area then prime/ paint satin blk then put it back on the car & start on the others
This motospray paint stripper is good shit better than that messy red crap in the tin

tpak addict reacted to Free.51 in Sanding /polishing fe Wheels
Well the paint stripper is working well should have known so ill get another tin & one of those polishing kits thanx fellas
-
tpak addict got a reaction from Free.51 in Sanding /polishing fe Wheels
Get one of those polishing kits from Bunnings/Supercheap.... Attaches to the drill and comes with a course wheel and compound and fine wheel and compound. The Jelly beans I did had been sitting outside for years and they came up a treat.
Not a great pic but came up OK

Happy crossflow freak in Far North Queensland tonight.
Well worth the wait. Awesomely engineered and finished. Bloody light as well. Missing a few pieces to make the linkage system work but the supplier is on it and sending the missing bits. I've worked out my issues with him and he has a good understanding of my expectations now.
