How do yo expect it to make the turning circle better?
These all still employ the radius rod as the steering stop.

There's a lot of info on xfalcon.com where XDRFT (Danny) put RRS in his XD drift car

steve mcqueen got a reaction from slydog in 4 Litre into XD-XF, Which one? Why?
From my experience putting a 4 litre in an x series, id say anything from EF onwards. A lot of others will say "use the EL 4 litre" as it has a dizzy over a coil pack and is easier to set up?
Tho I do like what Ants has said "Go an AU donk" A friend of mine has an AU falcon, nothing special, never looks after it, just drives it and that's it. It has just over 200K on the engine and the bloody thing is a rocket! I drove it to Sydney recently and I was shocked at how hard this thing went. I didn't cane it or go stupid but popped it back to 3rd to over take a couple of cars on the freeway and then back to drive again and the power it had was impressive.
Moral:  AU falcon 4 litre. Oh and just buy a complete car for the conversion, cheap as chips!

So your saying those 4 different places couldn't do a correct wheel alignment on your falcon and is still wearing out your front tyres?

That's an awesome claim, 1 place I could understand but 4?
Man there sounds like some dodgy mechanics down your way.
Did you ever go back and complain?

I had a dodgy wheel alignment done years ago and I took it back and they did it again for free and apoligised (I don't think it was done the first time tho)

This is your safety and others safety your messin with by trying to fix it yourself.
I hear your frustration if your claims are true but for the sum of $45 to $65 for a proper wheel alignment I think is cheap insurance, don't you?

steve mcqueen reacted to Gav in XG Smartlock Mysteries......
    Hey all,

I've almost completed my XF OHC project. Just a few loose ends to tie up before I attempt a roadworthy certificate for her. One of the last issues was an intermittent problem with starting the beast. Sometimes she'd start with no dramas and at other times she would turn over on the starter but there'd be no ignition spark. Ignition components tested okay. Substituting in a an earlier non-Smartlock 0DAC ECU (EB1 Falcon) would see the vehicle start every time but with the 6DAA or 6DAB (EL Falcon) ECUs I have it would exhibit the sometimes start-sometimes-not scenario - so I figured the problem to be related to the Smartlock feature.

A google search resulted in approximately a baziliion search items related to where the module exists in XG Falcons. I've used an XG Falcon harness in my project. The factory XG workshop manual supplement I have doesn't actually have a Smartlock section in it. Thanks Ford for the remarkable efforts regarding documentation!

So...as a public service I thought I'd document my efforts at finding its location.

The module is not in the location one may find find it in ED/EF passenger vehicles that were produced at the same time as the XG. It has been relocated in the XH as well. Turns out it's a little red fucker that can be found behind the passenger side dash mounted speaker. It's snugly fitted in there and not easily accessible. It's not the same module as exists in ED/EF/XHs as well. Its rivetted to a bracket which is located by screws to the dash assy.

Sometimes the screws (two of them) are accessible from the glovebox and sometimes they are forward facing and not accessible at all with the dash in situ. Depends on the vehicle...and when it was manufactured.

Secreted away...Ford obviously figured they'd developed a top-notch immobilizing system that never needed attention. WRONG.

You don't have to fully remove the dash assembly to get at it but all dash retaining screws/bolts, the handbrake location hardware and centre console screws need to be removed in order to located the dash far enough back to get your hands/tools in behind the dash

Here's the dash pulled forward enough to see it : it's that red box.

Here it is free of its dash mounting:

Here's my mod that allows access to the little bugger should it give issues in the future:

It has enough harness to be relocated in the glove box to give easy access. A relief has been cut into the rear of the glove box door to allow operation of the door.

Next stop...a bypass module if it gives me further grief!

Amen to that. Twice i had my systems installed by professionals.

1st time they dropped my head unit and had patched the PCB inside and taped the top cover back on plus the crimp lugged and taped all the connections. All which failed within 4 weeks of the install.

2nd time they smacked my rim on my 3 day old WRX on a gutter, and took 3 months to replace it, and failed to tune the system correctly including leaving the 12watt factory speakers connected which caused massive distortion on anything over 1/8 volume.

Your better off doing your own install if you can and do it right.

Looks like you've got a surface contamination Wayne. Did you wet rub the panels before you painted them? If you haven't used a clean bucket (washed with warm soapy water) you can pick up very fine contaminants from the bucket/water itself and rub them into the surface you are prepping and no matter how much you wipe them with prepsol/thinners they will always end up looking like this.

I'm on my phone so can't really see the bubble effect properly, but from what you've described it sounds like the thinners isn't flashing off quickly enough and it is eating into the paint underneath and causing the effect you describe.

The fix for both problems is to wait until the paint is dry and give them another hard block back (remember to clean the bucket thoroughly and use a fresh bit of sandpaper), give them a very light wipe with thinners (fresh clean rag) and then get a can of etch primer and go over where you have rubbed through to the original paint. That will seal up any potential fry up points so when you paint again it shouldn't happen.
Slydog touches on a good point as well, environment, if it's not warm enough when you're painting the thinners/reducer you are using in the paint won't flash off quick enough and will eat itself into the surface and always cause you some kind of problem. If you are painting in anything under 15 degrees you should double, or even triple, your waiting time between coats or at the least hitting each panel with a heat gun or hair dryer to flash off that thinners so it doesn't have time to etch itself into the panel.

      All Falcons up to January 1971 had a dual numbering system, consisting of both the Body Prefix Number and VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). The VIN was stamped on the passenger side support panel, and this should match the number stamped on the I.D. plate (which was attached to the drivers side pre January 1970, and on the bulkhead for the remainder of 1970). As of January 1971 Ford switched to using a 3 way identification system, the body prefix and serial number as located on the ID plate should be the same as on the engine and shock tower.   The body prefix number should be 6 characters in length, consisting of 2 letters, then 2 numbers, followed by another 2 letters.    Letter 1:   The first letter in the body prefix identifies the country, with "J" identifying Australia   Letter 2:   The next letter in the body prefix identifies the assembly plant, with "G" identifying Broadmeadows   Numbers 3 and 4:   The following 2 numbers identify the model   COUNTRY ASSEMBLY PLANT MODEL ID MODEL   J G 11 Futura Sedan J G 12 Futura Taxi J G 21 Falcon Sedan J G 22 Falcon Taxi J G 23 Falcon 500 Sedan J G 24 Falcon 500 Taxi J G 30 Falcon Wagon J G 31 Falcon 500 Wagon J G 32 Fairmont GXL J G 33 Falcon GT Sedan J G 34 Fairmont Sedan J G 35 Fairmont Wagon J G 36 Fairlane Custom J G 37 Fairlane 500 J G 38 Fairlane Custom Taxi J G 39 Fairlane 500 Taxi J G 40 Falcon Utility J G 41 Falcon 500 Utility J G 42 Falcon Van J G 43 Falcon 4WD Utility J G 45 Falcon 500 Van J G 47 Falcon Sundowner Van J G 62 Galaxie Sedan J G 63 Fairlane Marquis J G 64 Fairlane Ghia J G 65 Falcon 500 Coupe J G 66 Falcon GT Coupe J G 67 Fairmont Coupe J G 70 Landau Hardtop J G 71 LTD   Letters 5 and 6:   The next letters in the body prefix identify the year and month of manufacture, as per the table below:   YEAR CODE JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP OCT NOV DEC   1965 E J U M P B R A G C K D E 1966 F L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1967 G C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1968 H B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1969 J J U M P B R A G C K D E   1970 K L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1971 L C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1972 M B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1973 N J U M P B R A G C K D E 1974 P L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1975 R C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1976 S B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1977 T J U M P B R A G C K D E 1978 U L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1979 W C K D E L Y S T J U M P   1980 X B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1981 Y J U M P B R A G C K D E 1982 A L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1983 B C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1984 C B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1985 F J U M P B R A G C K D E 1986 G L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1987 H C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1988 J B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1989 K J U M P B R A G C K D E   1990 L L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1991 M C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1992 N B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1993 P J U M P B R A G C K D E 1994 R L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1995 S C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1996 T B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1997 V J U M P B R A G C K D E 1998 W L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1999 X C K D E L Y S T J U M P   2000 Y B R A G C K D E L Y S T 2001 1 J U M P B R A G C K D E 2002 2 L Y S T J U M P B R A G 2003 3 C K D E L Y S T J U M P 2004 4 B R A G C K D E L Y S T     TRANSMISSION CODES B 3 Speed Cruisomatic J 3 Speed Manual, Column Shift, Partial Synchro L 4 Speed Manual, Floor Shirt, All Synchro N 3 Speed Manual, Column Shift, All Synchro O 3 Speed Cruisomatic, T-Bar Floor Shift (XT GT Only) P 3 Speed Fordomatic, Column Shift R 3 Speed Cruisomatic, Column Shift     MODEL ENGINE CODE ENGINE XR Falcon C 170ci Six (Low Compression)   E 170ci Pursuit Six   G 200ci Super Pursuit Six   I 289ci Windsor V8 2V   K 289ci Windsor V8 4V   XT Falcon B 188ci Six   Q 188ci Six (Low Compression)   S 221ci Six   U 221ci Six (Low Compression)   W 302ci Mustang 5 Litre V8 4V   Y 302ci Mustang 5 Litre V8 2V   XW Falcon B 188ci Six   H 351ci V8 4V HO   Q 188ci Six (Low Compression)   S 221ci Six   T 351ci V8 4V   U 221ci Six (Low Compression)   Y 302ci V8 2V   XY Falcon E 200ci Six (Low Compression)   G 200ci Six   H 351ci V8 4V HO   J 250ci Six (Low Compression)   K 351ci V8 2V   L 250ci Six 1V   M 250ci Six 2V   T 351ci V8 4V   Y 302ci V8 2V   XA -
