Gav 616 Posted April 25, 2013 Engine code "W" I think is a 4.1 carburetor engine for use outside NSW - There were different emission requirements for NSW. See the emission schematics for unleaded XFs and you'll see a slightly different layout for NSW delivered vehicles. The paint code may be a variation of "Z" - stark white - probably for flet vehicles of a particular company. Certain companies operating a large number of vehicles with a particular colour or colour scheme had their own code. One I know of, for example is Boral. Their vans were green and yellow and this had its own Ford colour code - not in the factory manual. I think trim code W is "Wedgewood" Found this link on the other site that has some fairly good info on codes etc - check it out: http://www.xfalcon.com/forums/index.php?/topic/135-vehicle-identification-plate-codes/ It's got some useful stuff.... Wedgewood, the Ford colour may be borowed from "Wedgewood" - a well known pottery colour/brand which is a kind of blue - Google it...my mum loved the stuff.... revhead 1,392 Posted April 25, 2013 check this All Falcons up to January 1971 had a dual numbering system, consisting of both the Body Prefix Number and VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). The VIN was stamped on the passenger side support panel, and this should match the number stamped on the I.D. plate (which was attached to the drivers side pre January 1970, and on the bulkhead for the remainder of 1970). As of January 1971 Ford switched to using a 3 way identification system, the body prefix and serial number as located on the ID plate should be the same as on the engine and shock tower. The body prefix number should be 6 characters in length, consisting of 2 letters, then 2 numbers, followed by another 2 letters. Letter 1: The first letter in the body prefix identifies the country, with "J" identifying Australia Letter 2: The next letter in the body prefix identifies the assembly plant, with "G" identifying Broadmeadows Numbers 3 and 4: The following 2 numbers identify the model COUNTRY ASSEMBLY PLANT MODEL ID MODEL J G 11 Futura Sedan J G 12 Futura Taxi J G 21 Falcon Sedan J G 22 Falcon Taxi J G 23 Falcon 500 Sedan J G 24 Falcon 500 Taxi J G 30 Falcon Wagon J G 31 Falcon 500 Wagon J G 32 Fairmont GXL J G 33 Falcon GT Sedan J G 34 Fairmont Sedan J G 35 Fairmont Wagon J G 36 Fairlane Custom J G 37 Fairlane 500 J G 38 Fairlane Custom Taxi J G 39 Fairlane 500 Taxi J G 40 Falcon Utility J G 41 Falcon 500 Utility J G 42 Falcon Van J G 43 Falcon 4WD Utility J G 45 Falcon 500 Van J G 47 Falcon Sundowner Van J G 62 Galaxie Sedan J G 63 Fairlane Marquis J G 64 Fairlane Ghia J G 65 Falcon 500 Coupe J G 66 Falcon GT Coupe J G 67 Fairmont Coupe J G 70 Landau Hardtop J G 71 LTD Letters 5 and 6: The next letters in the body prefix identify the year and month of manufacture, as per the table below: YEAR CODE JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP OCT NOV DEC 1965 E J U M P B R A G C K D E 1966 F L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1967 G C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1968 H B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1969 J J U M P B R A G C K D E 1970 K L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1971 L C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1972 M B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1973 N J U M P B R A G C K D E 1974 P L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1975 R C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1976 S B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1977 T J U M P B R A G C K D E 1978 U L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1979 W C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1980 X B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1981 Y J U M P B R A G C K D E 1982 A L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1983 B C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1984 C B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1985 F J U M P B R A G C K D E 1986 G L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1987 H C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1988 J B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1989 K J U M P B R A G C K D E 1990 L L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1991 M C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1992 N B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1993 P J U M P B R A G C K D E 1994 R L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1995 S C K D E L Y S T J U M P 1996 T B R A G C K D E L Y S T 1997 V J U M P B R A G C K D E 1998 W L Y S T J U M P B R A G 1999 X C K D E L Y S T J U M P 2000 Y B R A G C K D E L Y S T 2001 1 J U M P B R A G C K D E 2002 2 L Y S T J U M P B R A G 2003 3 C K D E L Y S T J U M P 2004 4 B R A G C K D E L Y S T TRANSMISSION CODES B 3 Speed Cruisomatic J 3 Speed Manual, Column Shift, Partial Synchro L 4 Speed Manual, Floor Shirt, All Synchro N 3 Speed Manual, Column Shift, All Synchro O 3 Speed Cruisomatic, T-Bar Floor Shift (XT GT Only) P 3 Speed Fordomatic, Column Shift R 3 Speed Cruisomatic, Column Shift MODEL ENGINE CODE ENGINE XR Falcon C 170ci Six (Low Compression) E 170ci Pursuit Six G 200ci Super Pursuit Six I 289ci Windsor V8 2V K 289ci Windsor V8 4V XT Falcon B 188ci Six Q 188ci Six (Low Compression) S 221ci Six U 221ci Six (Low Compression) W 302ci Mustang 5 Litre V8 4V Y 302ci Mustang 5 Litre V8 2V XW Falcon B 188ci Six H 351ci V8 4V HO Q 188ci Six (Low Compression) S 221ci Six T 351ci V8 4V U 221ci Six (Low Compression) Y 302ci V8 2V XY Falcon E 200ci Six (Low Compression) G 200ci Six H 351ci V8 4V HO J 250ci Six (Low Compression) K 351ci V8 2V L 250ci Six 1V M 250ci Six 2V T 351ci V8 4V Y 302ci V8 2V XA - Falcon & XB Falcon E 200ci Six 1V (Low Compression) G 200ci Six 1V (High Compression) H 351ci V8 4V HO J 250ci Six 1V (Low Compression) K 351ci V8 2V L 250ci Six 1V (High Compression) M 250ci Six 2V T 351ci V8 4V Y 302ci V8 2V XC Falcon E 200ci Six (Low Compression) J 250ci Six (Low Compression) N 250ci Six (High Compression) P 302ci V8 4V T 351ci V8 4V GT FALCON MODEL CODES 18638 XR GT Falcon XR GT Falcon Specifications XR GT Falcon Identification 18838 XT GT Falcon XT GT Falcon Specifications XT GT Falcon Identification 18938 XW GT Falcon XW GT Falcon Specifications XW GT Falcon Identification 18939 XW GTHO Falcon XW GTHO Falcon Specifications XW GTHO Falcon Identification 18939 XW GTHO II Falcon XW GTHO II Falcon Specifications XW GTHO Phase II Falcon Identification 18038 XY GT Falcon (1970) XY GT Falcon Specifications XY GT Falcon Identification 18138 XY GT Falcon (1971) XY GTHO III Falcon Specifications XY GTHO Phase III Falcon Identification 18238 XA GT Falcon Sedan XA GT Falcon Specifications XA GT Falcon Identification 18218 XA GT Falcon Hardtop XA GT Falcon Hardtop Specifications XA GT Falcon Hardtop Identification 18338 XB GT Falcon Sedan XB GT Falcon Specifications XB GT Falcon Identification 18318 XB GT Falcon Hardtop XB GT Falcon Hardtop Specifications XB GT Falcon Hardtop Identification 4 steve mcqueen, Dok, Ants and 1 other reacted to this

revhead 1,392 Posted April 25, 2013 ZL / FE (1984–1988) 1986 Ford ZL Fairlane The revised ZL series of 1985 (launched October 1984) kept the two six-cylinder engine options; it was only at the end of 1986 that the carburettor version of the Fairlane was deleted. The ZL again carried over all external panels, but now had integrated headlights with clear indicators, full wrap-around bumpers, and new tail lights. Inside, a full digital dashboard was introduced with push-button controls at either end of the instrument binnacle. The FE series LTD was also released in October 1984.[25]
revhead 1,392 Posted April 25, 2013 The third facelift of the XD-based ZJ arrived with a new single square headlight nose that separated it from its lowly Falcon origins, revised taillights and a complete cabin makeover. New seats, a colour-coded electronic dash, and more electronics debuted. The base 103kW 4.1L I6 employed improved engine efficiency, although mandatory unleaded fuel (ULP) changes dropped its power output to 97.5kW from January ‘86. Side indicators found in the front bumpers identify these. A rear seat boot hatch and steering wheel rake adjustment were introduced, while cruise control, central locking, and a trip meter were added to the Fairlane.Meanwhile the almost identical LTD’s initial 120kW 4.1L EFI I6 (with improved computer management) saw a 1kW power output improvement with ULP from Jan ’86. In July ’87 700 Fairlane Sportsman cars were introduced, with sportier trim and alloy wheels. 26,195 ZLs and 4196 FEs were built.
