If either of you blokes are interested I made up a drilling jig for doing the shelby drop. Its on my long list of things to do but after I have finished with it if you pay post (its 1 plate with 2 bolts will fit in post bag) its yours.

Nath got his set today but won't put them on cause blah blah blah. I am interested to see how they go as they are more expensive than a set of bilsteins and custom king springs, which when used with a shelby drop I would be thinking would provide better handling than the coilovers. This is only my opinion and am happy to be proved wrong but to me the specs on the coilover are more suited to looks than handling.

You could sand blast it and use a 2pac clear coat over it we used it on my dad's engine and it's lasted 10 years and still looks as good as the day it was put in the car, hard to believe but these photos are 10 years apart

    History:
After owning 2 other TF cortinas, which were both riddled with rust, I found another 1 owner example. After some small talk with the owner I managed to get it cheap. The log books and Ford manuals were chucked in with it. Its a TF S Pac Cortina, auto with the air-con.
The interior was in great condition, air-con didn't work and had only 123,000kms. The suspension was worn, but otherwise this thing drove really nice.
And the major bonus, no rust. At all (So I thought). After owning 2 I knew where to look. It was perfect.
I replaced the steering and suspension with my old items I had at home which were re-coed and modified (H/D lowered springs, whiteline swaybars etc). I put on a set of extractors and a Weber carb off a XE falcon. Replaced the diff with my diff which is an LSD with 3.45:1 ratio.
The car ran a 15.96, still with the BW auto.
After this, I had a really, really bad experience with a backyard panel beater/spray painter, which I don't want to mention as it just upsets me too much, SO DON'T ASK!

After installing the said bits above (main difference is its lowered)

That was 7 years ago. And here started my journey into building this car, myself.

I have bought a few bits which I'll keep to myself until I install them as its not worth mentioning. But the basic idea is to go turbo 6 and have a really nice streeter. But I do want things to be done to the best of my ability. So what I can do, I will.

    I made up a set of mini-tubs

ive got a wiring short cut here for the dizzy, etc

you can use old x series v8 engine mounts as the still bolt to the new windsor ,

Tacho is there purely to activate the shift light.
Since it's a reputable brand that I got for free, it was better than getting a cheap Chinese stand alone shift light.
Running at the creek I want to get the change as close to a certain RPM as possible.

The motor will bolt in like any other early Windsor.
You will require to override the smart lock or smart shield as fitted to later AU's. There are a few options in doing this.
if you maintain the BTW auto, you may need to mod the cross member & tailshaft.
You could bolt an early C4 or toploader with the early bellhousing, you just need a 50oz flywheel/flex plate. Doing this will not require crossmember or tailshaft swap.
You could swap the from dress to run V belts or set your car up with power steering ( I'd go rack conversion ) & run the serpentine belt.
I spoken in depth with a couple engineers regarding brakes, vented front discs & drums on the rear were sufficient to stop a 351 clevo, so getting it to pull up a 5.0 litre injected Windsor won't be an issue.
At the end of the day, the only thing the engineer would be looking at is the injection, since the origins & capacity of that motor was readily available in 1969 in the form of 302 Windsor.
( flat tappet, carby version ).

Physically the 302w efi will drop straight into the XW using Cleveland mounts and pedestals.

If you look up Rawdeal (I think) on here, he has a efi 302 running in his XB.

The only hard part in my opinion is the electrics, but any one with some smarts would sort this quickly.

Exhaust guys no doubt earn their money, because it's a prick of a job, but cash is better in my pocket.
Considering I got all the materials for a full mandrel system for around 500 bucks.

SirkWhyXF reacted to FOMOCOHO in Keeping originality... as promised dAVE
When I changed the stereo in my '82 XE Fairmont Ghia I didn't want to cut or chop anything as it is an original JG32 car with factory manual, which are hard to find these days.

Even though this was done along time ago, I had the foresight to understand it may be more valuable as original, the door cards were really good with no holes and the original Pioneer radio/tape-deck was also in good condition.

So I sourced pioneer 4" speakers that were chunky enough to handle the new deck output but fit in the front speaker slots. I also found a set of grills that already had broken slats from my old XD and cut & fitted the speakers and kept the original grills and speakers in a box for safe keeping.

No damage done. They were beefy top of the line 4" 2-way but will be the weak link so had to be replaced once. The second set should last longer since I appreciate my hearing now.

The rears sourced were 6" Pioneer 3-way, again as beefy as I could get that would just bolt into the original headrests, no cut & shut.
Hence my doors and door cards have no holes at all.

Bit of a shampoo and they should look like new.

Next was the deck. Back when I did this the car was a daily and top-of-the-line pioneer still had a tape-deck... and they were so chunky you didn't need a power amp. Thing weighs a ton! It was back in  the QR days before the removable front thing which was so impractical since it weighed a ton. Also has 6-stack in boot so had all bases covered. Just no bluetooth back then. But it still looks period enough with the car and can play cassettes!

So I sourced another escutcheon from the wreckers and modified that & spot welded the cage in. The front panel was available new from Fords at the time. The old deck was removed and put in a box for safe-keeping.

    New deck fitted...

    Cradle without deck...

As far as cassette decks go this one is the most advanced, even searches a tape but that will wear the heads, so best to just FF>>.
Radio has superfringe too & BSM for country/interstate travel. It just goes off for a radio tape/deck era machine & has full remote & CD stacker for more modern stuff.

All the wiring was done with XE Ford connectors with easy access. The whole escutcheon can be removed in a couple of minutes with no swearing or cursing. It would not take long to unplug & remove this one & replace the original, that was the idea maybe for car shows or whatever.

The original Pioneer stereo in storage...

So there you go dAVE, no originality upset and reversal in extra quick time!

    Looks are very subjective.
Au's may be "ugly" but they've aged better than anything from that era,and are the most reliable car ever built in this country.
