my experience with fitting is a positive one and I Managed to retain the ESP Premium sound system facia and components (including the graphic equaliser). the pots fur tuning and adjustments can be moved to accomodate mating up to the cars particular layout. the unit is really compact and light and if you you feel the need you can buy sticks facia with ford logo. I ditched this because it caused difficulty reading the screen telling me what I am scrolling to or what radio station that I am on. I was able also to get XD/E type knobs but because of my set up with retaining the premium sound look of the dash I had to modify knobs slightly but they do work ok and In my opinion look a bit oversized compared to the facia of the radio unit. blue tooth and phone connectivity is good as well. My son fitted the same unit to his XD Fairmont Ghia.

You are right about the super lows. Had them in before, took em out, put in genuine Ford country pac. Looks and rides good on polished snow flakes an Bstone ecopias. Don't push em in the wet!! 😬
Again, thanks for replies, I am sticking with the way it is. Too much work for my old bones.

As said, for ESP only, without them the mechanism rubs on the bottom of the seat, I took mine out and made half height ones (25 mm) so I don’t rub on the steering wheel getting in and out, and angled the ends at 45deg so they go a bit further forward so my short as missus can get the seat forward enough.

that bracket is for esp scheel seats which raises the seat up ,when i fitted my scheels i left the bracket out so the seat sat lower.

    Hi,
    First time post here.

Is the attached seat spacer standard issue? I have just replaced jammed seat adjusters and found that one seat has the spacer and the other doesn’t. It sits between the seat and the adjuster. If so where could I source a pair? It’s a XE 1983 Fairmont.

After making sure both my ESP’s original radios worked the way they should, I’ve never turned the on in the 16 odd years I’ve owned them.
they both make the only music I care about while driving them.😏

Hi Fitted a retro sound unit to My ESP as I was fed up with trying to keep the original units running. retro sound was easy as and gives me the option of bluetooth, Streaming from phone and easy to install.
pretty Awesome. My Son also fitted one to his XD Fairmont Ghia

I have a wide ratio, XF-EA T5 in mine behind a 302 and it is indeed a world class. It also has synchro on 1st (all T5s, WC or non-WC have it actually).

The non-WC has a few clues as to its identity, the main one being the layshaft bearing on the front face of the box just being a plain roller type (with bronze thrust washers inside) identified externally by what looks like a welch plug turned inside out.

The WC box has a tapered bearing here with a cast steel cap that forms the bearing cup for the race. From outside, it looks like the top of a small piston with a slight dish in it and the outer edge will be a machined finish.

Non-WC takes a light (non-EP) gear oil, and has bronze syncros.

WC takes red auto fluid and has fibre-lined steel syncros.

Any of those are an ok option for a mild setup . Don't get caught up in the whole HP robbing thing. For your setup you'd never notice.
Anyway a roller bearing in a C6 at the rear helps free them up and available as a bolt in deal .

The C4's are around but pricey . If you're rebuilding  budget in for a planet as most are worn out .
The C6 is tough as as long as the pipes will fit as above . The right parts and a shift kit help nicely. And a tube dipstick will fit in a Falcon no problems .

The FMX with a good rebuild and transgo shift kit is all it will need . As long as it is ok parts wise to start with , and pay attention to the forward drum bore where the sealing rings run . A lot are worn but can be sleeved .

FMX + C4 are same length so tailshaft will fit with correct yoke .
    C6 likely need tailshaft shortened

Agreed.  Done the conversion on the XB, from drum to disc brake 9", haven't changed a thing.  Brakes hard and straight. Heard many stories about rears locking up, etc, but haven't had it on both conversions I've done. Fully rebuilt calipers from an XC/ZH, and new discs.

I retract that last statement..........  Pacemaker list PH4055 and say in red letters WILL fit C6 and FMX.  Maybe it's their 4 into 1's I was thinking about. Yep, thats it Castle headers, CH112A.

Been told Pacemakers for a Clevo interfere with an FMX trans, not sure about C6. Some listings on Fleabay specifically say ..."not suited to FMX"

Hey mate,  have you driven the car since changing to disc brake rears? Do the rears lock up unusually under Heavy braking?

Some times the brake master cylinders are built differently from drums to discs,  you should only need to change the brake master cylinder to the a four wheel disc brake type and problem should be solved!

If your rear brakes are not locking up/ behaving strangely under heavy braking and providing that they still function correctly,  you may be able to leave the factory brake master cylinder.

that’s from my experience any way.
