Mr Polson reacted to Panko in Panko's Mk1 Escort (Round 2)
Big day today.
The Escort is home at last
Covered in dust
First time washing it since December 2020 *not me in the photo*
all nice and clean at last. ready to go into its new home.
this is how you clean the inside, right? 😬 its fine, there is no interior at the moment
Engine bay looks so pretty
In it's new home. the shed is a little squishy with the car running this way across the shed, but once i get some shelving into the shed and a bit more storage ill have space to move.

Mr Polson got a reaction from 0z87xf in Ford Registered Technician Bulletin - 34 ADM Weber Carb
Got these off my old man from his Ford dealership days. This one refers to the Weber 34 ADM Carburettor used on both 3.3L (200 cubic inch) and 4.1L (250 cubic inch) crossflows in the XE Falcon/Fairmont and ZK Fairlane. Possibly FD LTD if any of them were carby. Very similar to the carby used on XF models - some differences include no return line on carb, fuel bowl vent added, and EST additions in 86 with unleaded.

No unfortunately, the project has come to a grinding holt for the last 5-6 weeks.
Where I left you all, was me chasing a set of Mk2, 1.3 or 1.6L front struts and hubs, to suit my big brakes.
I did not want Pinto 2L struts because my adjustable inserts would not fit, so id be up for around $1000, out of budget just to build front suspension all over again.
In that time, my partner and I have spent the last few weeks renovating a house owned by her parents, ready for us to move into.
Keep in mind, the house is a 100 year old "bungalow" (the name used to describe the style, not an actual bungalow) house in Box Hill. So that has taken priority. We decided to set ourselves a move in date, and work to that, which was last weekend. So our first night in the house was the 29th of October, last Friday night. And we have not finished with the house yet. we still have 2 rooms and the hallway to renovate and paint, but we can do it while living here.
So, where is the Escort at now?
Today, I FINALLY picked up a set of complete Mk2, 1.6L struts.
From here, I have to build them up, with the new brakes, my inserts, struts tops etc, and then I can take it all over to the workshop and drop the subframe and running gear in, and she will be a rolling car again. hopefully in the next few weeks Ill have this done and the car back on its wheels.
The only challenging part is I am still using my father's shed in Berwick as the workshop, so all parts and tools, and spray paint i need for the Escort is about 35-40 minutes drive away from where we are now living.
If you ignore the apartment buildings either side and office building behind, this little photo that I edited to make it look a bit older, kind of shows the vintage of the house.
The outside is pretty rough, but inside has had a complete makeover.

Mr Polson got a reaction from deankxf in XF AU Windsor conversion
I think only some T5s had that balance thing.
I don't have it on mine, no issues at all. -

XE had Bosch system. -
Mr Polson got a reaction from IVC434 in XC Falcon fuel pump seal kit?
I was going to say Auto Surplus, would've thought you'd know of them through work, we use them all the time for old rarer parts -

Mr Polson got a reaction from roKWiz in Repair or Rebirth......??
Very philosophical question in a way, made me think of the Ship of Theseus, where a ship is repaired over and over again over time until every part has been replaced, is it still the original or now considered a replacement?
Personally with a car I'd base it on the main middle section, if that's original then you're just doing repairs to the front & back of it.

Not off the shelf, can possibly source one but kits are pretty uncommon now, most people just put new fuel pumps on these days. -

Most gearboxes are relatively simple, but lack of common knowledge seems to be what scares most people.
Same with autos, they're rather simple in how they work but because it's seen as a specialist thing people avoid them.
Bet you drove carefully with that glass in the back of the wagon!! -
Mr Polson reacted to SirkWhyXF in Xf bolt on spoiler
And i haven't really been around for years either, so that makes sense, at least i was on the right track.
Cheers for clearing that up Chris.

EgoXF hasn't been at alpha for years now.
You'll also find Alpha recently packed up shop and moved to Qld - fairly sure they reopened up there but not 100% sure. -
Mr Polson got a reaction from Outback Jack in Early rocker on a au head
XG probably changed to the skinny gasket when EF came out at a guess?
-
Mr Polson got a reaction from Lott in FG 5spd upgrade
Get the ECU from the car you get the gearbox from as the ECU is paired to the TCM and from what I've heard it's tricky to try and re-pair them.
Shifter is different, not sure if it's compatible or not but they are different.
That's about the extent of my knowledge on it

Mr Polson got a reaction from gerg in WINDSOR SMALLBLOCK TALK
Oh yeah absolutely not something you'd do now simply due to the advancements in aftermarket.

Windsors rev, Clevos breathe
That's the way my old man has always put it, and why the Clevo heads on a Windsor was the popular choice back before alloy heads became as available as they are now -

Mr Polson got a reaction from gonefishing in Upgrade XF 85 model 3 speed Column shift to 5 speed
Is it a 3 speed manual?
If so, pretty easy.
Swap the column as well. 3spd out, new/different clutch, do the rear main while you're there, cut a hole in the floor, install five speed.
And you'll need a new clutch cable for the 5spd because your XF will have the clutch cable going to the drivers side, 5spds have the cable on the passengers, as do all 86 onwards XFs.

Best bet will be to contact Ford with the VIN and prove that you own the car and they should be able to help out

Mr Polson got a reaction from deankxf in XF high beam / Indicator switch
Was the easiest website to find it on, you can buy it at other shops.
But I guarantee you'll have a much better colour if you used the base coat underneath.
The rocker cover on my BarraCruiser has the blue MetalCast, without the base coat it would've just been a light blue paint with no metallic appearance -
Mr Polson got a reaction from deankxf in XF high beam / Indicator switch
My wagon has aluminium foil on one of the headlights it's been there since I got it registered.
Wouldn't recommend it - beam is definitely not as good as the other side which has one of the reco reflectors I got off you in it.
