xm-221 got a reaction from scottly in Gearbox change
Pedal box, clutch cable and clutch cable bracket for the firewall, gearbox, spigot bearing for the crankshaft, flywheel, clutch and you're ready to go.

    Abridged version.

    Starter motor out.
Exhaust off (V8 with crossover pipes or if your pipes are in the way of the box coming out).
    Unplug wiring for speedo drive.
    Take the auto out.
    Take flexplate off.
Install the flywheel, pressure plate/clutch assy.
Spigot bearing goes in the hole in the back of the crank.
Install single rail, don't forget to swap your old speedo sender in.
You can either take the dash out and swap pedal boxes or just swap the clutch pedal in.
    Attach the clutch cable.
Start car and test clutch throw out.
If it's all good drive the tits off it asap

I've probably forgotten something along the way, feel free to add to this ladies and gents.

looks like they just resell spectrum rubber kits by there part number system, which are mostly rare spares rubbers anyway, his prices do look good but from the kits i checked are missing a number of products, so make sure you compare like for like, just cause its called a KIT doesnt mean they are the same

note how he makes them seem fuller then they are, the xd kit lists bailey channel uprights then bailey channel main as seperate things, these are a one piece seal but he has managed to make his list bigger by adding 2 lines, he does the same thing with the bonnet adjuster kits, these come as a single kit yet he manages to get 3 line items on his kit list cause he lists the bolts separate to the rubber that sits onto of the bolt and then lists the bumpers on the edges seperate too??? but he doesnt even have the plastic nut you need with them either???

As a rival seller of rubber kits i have seen these tactics used all the time, rarely are they as good a deal as they seem

Ok, remembered to take some pics and upload them to photobucket (I love my new phone).

The whole lower radiator support is there to replace the original lower tie bar, radius rod mounts are the same as XE.

Even if you left in the XG lower radiator support panel you'd be able to weld in the replacement XE radius rod mounts (k frame I think you're talking about) as they're still the same part in the same place. I think even the lower tie bar is the same, it just doesn't have those poxy mounts for the old copper radiator.

When Ford dropped in the 4lt they made a huge
plate that was mig welded in over the top of the existing structure. I'll grab some pics of it all from the empty XG Van engine bay tomorrow and endeavour to post them up asap.

    Fixed!
XD-E-F rails, towers, inner fenders and radiator support panels are all the same bar some obvious pressings and holes that are different between model changes.

XH has a different front end completely. From the firewall forward to be exact.

Whirla, cut the XE crossmember and suspension hats out and weld them into your van no problems.

Read that question again Clint. He's after the crossmember and suspension hats to remedy the cracking in the suspension towers, looking at the two XG Vans in my driveway at the moment they're a direct replacement.

the steering shaft just moves inwards/outward in side it's self, its a 2 peice shaft with a inner shaft and outer shaft.
eg manual steering column into P/S car just bolt to steering box and pull toward you till lines up with studs and bolt up.

Ring your local rego branch and ask if they can do a search for the last registered owner of the engine and contact them on your behalf (they won't give out contact details due to privacy laws). Vicroads in the past have done this and they contact the current owner with a request to sell the engine if it is currently not in a vehicle. A mate had this done and the guy who owned the engine agreed to sell it back on the proviso he was given another standard block to build up. This was a fair few years ago now so I don't know if they do it anymore.

You have to remember that most TMU/TOG cops now are my age (42) and grew up around this era of cars and probably knew at least one person who owned an XC. Out of my group of mates there were 3 that had owned an XC at any one time, 1 of them is now a Sergeant

As for sales people, it's a rare deal to find someone who knows something about older cars working at Repco now, sales experience is the number one prerequisite now. Steve McQueen is one of those rare deals.
I had a mate who had over 15yrs wrecker experience and has forgotten more about cars than I know, yet was passed up for a job when the Geelong Super Thief Auto store opened because he didn't have the pretty boy sales look about him and didn't have enough sales experience. WTF!
I asked one young bloke in Geelong for some XE door handles and they weren't in stock on the computer, so I asked him for TE Cortina handles and they had 2 full sets, I told him I'd take both sets and put one set in my XE, he flat out refused to sell them to me because the computer told him they were different part numbers so they were different door handles. It was only after his manager stepped in as I was giving the kid what for that he capitulated and shut his smart arse mouth.

Gone are the days when most traffic management unit cops are clueless when it comes to what engines should be in a certain car. Vic police figured out ages ago that employing guys who are into cars was beneficial to collecting more fines.
