wagoon 2,429 Posted September 5, 2014 Nice outcome. The extra torque and power coming in earlier should help get the car moving a bit better. Do you think there would be any weight saving with this setup over the crossflow?
TF_250 398 Posted September 5, 2014 Nice outcome. The extra torque and power coming in earlier should help get the car moving a bit better. Do you think there would be any weight saving with this setup over the crossflow? The torque from 3000 to 4000 is way different to the old motor. As for the weight I'm not sure on that one I would say the DOHC would be heavier but not by much all the weight difference would be in the head if say. The short block may be lighter so if would be close. I plan to weigh the car when I can at the drags and compare it to what I had before.
PRO250 1,506 Posted September 5, 2014 YAY its a poolNot a bad thingHow much is time on the engine dyno these days? PM if you want I want to stick my blown engine on a engine dyno
TF_250 398 Posted September 5, 2014 They're all different pro, anyone can drive a dyno what you need to find and what is worth paying for is the guy tuning the engine, so when you find a good one pay what they ask!! 1 scottly reacted to this
Clevo120Y 815 Posted September 6, 2014 That's awesome Jase, must be time for port work then
gerg 10,871 Posted September 6, 2014 Love the VCT... Hits the sweet spot at any given rpm. You'll be in the 12s with this shoved in a Corty and geared right. Impressive results... Nearly 100 hp over stock!
Clevo120Y 815 Posted September 6, 2014 I hope he runs quicker than 12's otherwise he might be a bit disappointed 1 TF_250 reacted to this
wagoon 2,429 Posted September 6, 2014 yeah considering his crossflow with less power and torque ran 11.58 I'm guessing a 12 would be a shock to say the least 1 TF_250 reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted September 6, 2014 Wow that's already a great number... Only way is quicker from there! 1 Clevo120Y reacted to this

Valvebouncer 2,389 Posted September 7, 2014 That's a great improvement in the 3-4000 range!<br />I'm really looking forward to seeing videos of this at full noise in the car!
wagoon 2,429 Posted September 7, 2014 Wow thats a BIG hole in the crossflow curve. 60 footers should improve quite a bit and pull better through half track, all leads to some better times ahead. Yes pun intended
ando76 4,354 Posted September 7, 2014 Old converter stall speed???
gerg 10,871 Posted September 8, 2014 I'd be aiming for around 3800-ish. Any higher will put you out of the meaty range on the upshift. Not much between the two engines overall, with the max difference being only 15Nm (albeit more across the entire range) but the original goal was to equal or better the crossflow with better driveability. I think that's been easily achieved and done really well. Hats off to you mate, we're all watching in anticipation for the 1/4 results... No pressure 2 Clevo120Y and slydog reacted to this
slydog 7,873 Posted September 8, 2014 Well here comes the learning curve. No doubt it will be quicker when sorted as it has the power on tap already and in a more drivable platform but the rest of the car may need some tweaking to suit, who knows ? But it won't be slower Not the only 1 been done but the only 1 I know of going in a Corty NAT ASP for racing which deserves props on that alone.
TF_250 398 Posted September 9, 2014 Original goal was to replace the crossflow with another engine of similar power, goal archived in my book. If I had a dollar for very time I was told that one of the many different things I was doing wouldn't work it would have made over 400hp!!!! I think it will go just fine and do exactly what I want it to do. The series I currently run in has a et cutoff of 11.50 soooo maybe in trouble there time will tell!! 1 Valvebouncer reacted to this
PRO250 1,506 Posted September 9, 2014 What about doing a run with the handbrake up 3 of 4 clicks? LOL 2 Outback Jack and wagoon reacted to this
Valvebouncer 2,389 Posted September 9, 2014 I think what you have done so far is brilliant. It really highlights how far the development of these engines have come and that you don't need to break the bank to go fast. Well done! 2 TF_250 and Outback Jack reacted to this
TF_250 398 Posted September 9, 2014 What about doing a run with the handbrake up 3 of 4 clicks? LOL Lol I don't even have a handbrake anymore it used to drag and slow me down might have to go find all the parts again!!!!
TF_250 398 Posted September 14, 2014 Got it all in the car and running, alot of time spent on the laptop getting all the systems setup. LOL now the engine idles do low may alternator needs a smaller pulley because i don't have any voltage at 800rpm!!!!! 11 XTREME KARTS XF, XES, Outback Jack and 8 others reacted to this
