Yeah that was the big hoopla at the time, everyone was scared of plastic until they dropped one off a building along with a steel one, plastic one bounced, steel one ruptured. I'm sure I've seen a video of it.

    Some things I know about boost;

    Boost gets the bitches,
Some is good - more is better,
Despite the above you need to show restraint or bad things happen,
It creates lotsa heat - so make your exhaust seat fat
If it's a streeter - don't tell the cam grinder its for a turbo, just buy a towing cam (straight from Ray Hall that one)
Cooler air going in makes for better/ safer boost levels,
Blow thru turbo is cool- but a pain in the butt to tune for street,
If its an auto - get a full manual body, lack of vacuum causes issues with the auto,
If your using an auto with a turbo you are a girl - piss it off and put in a manual (Ray Hall again - he seriously hates auto turbo??)
The more boost you add, the less timing you need,
Long stroke motors like the crossy love boost and lastly,

It creates some good arguments on forums........

Haha yeah done the same with the pushrods quite a few times, this was a bent valve, alot harder to get to. lol

I purposely left standard pushrods in so it had a weak link in the top end, so if something does attempt suicide,

more chance it will bend a pushrod first, but nope, wasn't so lucky. Then i was told standard pushrods are hardened anyway.

Dunno mate, dunno. The boys told me to do a skid so, being young and stupid i came out of the intersection

at the top of the street, got it in a straight line and pinned it, 1st, 2nd all the way through 3rd 'till it ran out of revs,

dropped back to second and right through third again. Being a single wheeler at the time i had passed the next side street

so had gone a bit more than the length of the block by the time it decided to stop wheel-spinning. lol. Poor thing. That engine

had only done about 400km since it's initial rebuild so i'm surprized it only bent a valve. But fk a Clevo sounds good at them revs!!

Damn!! Between You and Slydog make it hard to give up on these old tech engines and throw them away. After reading these posts I keep finding myself not only keeping one of these going but seem to be collecting parts for them.

Could be the maf, if you unplug it and it starts to run smoothly it's at fault and needs to be replaced, if it's fuel pressure reg related you can unplug the vacuum line to the regulator and see if the idle changes if it doesn't the reg is at fault, to find out if you have a fuel supply issue you can plug a fuel pressure gauge into the fuel rail (just cable tie it to the one of the wipers for a test) and take it for a drive to see if it drops pressure under load to give you an indication of faulty fuel pump/ filter, alternatively if it's started using more fuel as well take it for a spirited drive and when you pull up you may find one of your cats glowing if one of them is starting to fall apart

Mount garnet mate. That's where the photo was taken. It has rust in all the usual places and a couple of nasty bits. Nothing I can't fix with time. It's no restorer and that's what I was after as it was always going to be a stripped out race car with just the bare essentials. It raced in Townsville back in the day as a dedicated drag car.

Yeah THOR will hit the engine dyno in Brissy and after that it will come home a sit waiting for me to get the corty done. I've got a few customer engines to knock over in the new year and then I might get stuck into the corty. Might put a beer and bbq on every Saturday and invite Butcher from JB over and hook into the corty.

Tonys metal and Speed, Cairns. Bring lots of $$$$. Seriously you have to love these engines to spend the amount of coin I have on this engine. I mean the vac pump alone is $890 US. Rods $695, Camshaft $700, lifters $890US, Pistons $1100'. It just goes on and on. I could build an LS with 465@ the wheels for way less than this engine. But that's not my thing.

When it comes down to it - I love these engines and I really wanted to build the best one I could, so I did.

Ok time to start a thread on THOR, my idea of the ultimate aspo crossflow. This is the engine that will be powering my new TD Cortina drag car venture.

    Here is a brief run down on THOR's specs;

Triple 45mm webers (soon to be converted to E85)
    Tighe - Solid roller cam
    Heavily ported C2A head
    86da block
    Modified EF crank
    Ross Forged 200 rod pistons
    Spool Forged 200 conrods

Anyway I have had this formula in my head for a long time and I collected all the bits and pieces and now its time to assemble the monster that will become THOR.

Why cant Flash lube just be added to the tank?
Its a product made specially for applications like this.

Thus making it a fuel that is compatible with early engines not suitable for unleaded.

In this guys instance it wont matter as it sounds like he is getting his engine re built anyway
so the machine shop would recommend hardened valve seats and new valves,,,,
    But....

For people who have an old classic,  weather that be an early Falcon or a Morris or a side valve V8
cant they just put this valve saver fluid into their tanks and carry on per normal?

+1 on Engine Engineering. Tell Deb in the office or Cam in the workshop that Tony and Rob sent you in and they will sort you. Set of hardened seats and your good to go. I converted Penny!s Coupe (170) & the woody over many years ago. Both see doing fine on unleaded.
Good chance your head will need attention in the seats anyway so up may as well do it properly, especially if the engine is apart. I do recommend crack testing those early heads as they are prone to cracking.

Just pour unleaded in the tank. It would of already been run on unleaded I'm sure unless the engine hasn't been used since 1990 something. The only difference on a unleaded and leaded head engine is the valve seats. On a unleaded engine there made from hardened steel inserts.

    Thats it...

This is my set up for the streets!  3" Mandrel bent pipes from the headers right though to tail the pipe, twin into single Y piece, 1 big Lukey muffler before the diff. $700 bucks the lot installed!!

    The Redback muffler!

Sounds great at idle and good when ya keep the revs low but when I get up her it gives resonating buzz which is a little annoying, but no drone!   The sound changes when I go from my Shaker to air cleaners (which is crazy but true), unfortunately it has better sound without the Shaker on.  The first muffler was a red back straight though and it was horrible!(pic above) The Lukey improved it a fair bit but still has that slight resonating buzz, and it restricted a bit of power! I still I ran 388 rwhp on the dyno with this exhaust!

So that's my street set up but now I'm going to build a side pipe for racing so that will be interesting!  I'm going to kick a 3" pipe after the Y piece (so I don't need to invest in a crossover) out to the side of the car under the passenger back door with a straight through muffler of some type, and set it up both systems so I can bolt and unbolt them for what i'm using the car for.

With the redback muffler and not tuned up!

And with the with the Lukey muffler and tuned up but not dyno tuned!
