Im probably being OCD again... but id like to see how other utes spare wheel doors close. I used to have a towbar but i had that removed, and with the door shut there is now about a 2 inch gap between the top of the door and the body.

I used to have a heavy duty towbar before the respray, so it was like a big black strip right across the back, so i'd never seen what it was supposed to look like under there. I'm guessing the hole in the middle is for a standard gooseneck towbar.
Is this how they normally sit? With that big gap across the top? Mr Polson im looking in your direction hahaha.

    Cheers!

I think the gap between headlights and bonnet is all in the angle you look at it.
As far as I know, the headlights in my wagon have been out when I pulled them out to replace the reflectors, and I drew around the washers and marked where the speed clip was to get them back in the same spot. Here's some pics of where they are.

In regards to the glass, the Ford glass is miles ahead of any aftermarket one. The only lenses I've found that compare (and are just as good) are Lucas ones, which were made as OEM type parts and sold by Ford spare part dealers.

Yeah id tend to agree here, looking at the passenger side head light it appears not to sit with the grill properly?
Perhaps the bonnet is out of whack and not sitting correctly either?

If it was mine, id find genuine XF Head lights (gonna be hard but do-able and expensive) and if the reflectors are crap
id swap the guts over from the after market into the original ford units and presto.
You mite remember, that what i did with mine, still haven't fitted them yet but they do look the goods.

Me and me mate were comparing them the other day and came to the conclusion that the aftermarket ones don't use silver to coat the reflective surfaced in the headlight like that used to.
If you look closely at an aftermarket headlight and a genuine Ford one, the aftermarket reflector is poor quality. More silver that highly reflective finish.
There is also a difference in the glass as stated above and the 'focus' of the beam is not as good as a result.

Oh, by the way  mate... ya ute looks flash after the paint job..... lovely.

Hey mate, the way I restored mine was got the aftermarket bodies and put the original ford glass on them. They look as good as original and light up really great.

Ive read all the posts about the aftermarket XF lights not being as good as the originals, especially to do with the refelectors and the light beam. But I was wondering if they are a slightly different size to the originals? or if i'm just imagining things...
The panel shop put aftermarket headlights in my ute, and I reckon there is too much gap between the lights and the bonnet, but if i lifted them thered be too much gap above the bumper. These pics should give an idea what i mean.

Anyone else had this issue? Also, will ford glass fit over aftermarket housing? because if the glass is all it takes to make them fit better, i reckon i might be able to hunt some up.
    Cheers!

PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation

its a very basic system and no issue at all using a breather on the rocker cover

when an engine is running gasses and emmissions are created inside mostly from gas that escapes past the piston rings etc, in an old car these were just vented to the atmosphere by a hose and would drop oil mist and also release emmisions out to the air

now they vent that air back into the engine so it can be reburnt (better for the environment)

there is a suction hose and an inlet hose, the suction hose is routed from the inlet manifold under the carby (throttle body) so that it sees constant suction, this sucks the air contstantly into the engine through the pcv valve from out of the rocker cover, if they just left it at that the crankcase would depressureize but there wouldnt be any airflow to suck the air out, so they also add a vent on the rocker cover to let fresh air in, this hose goes from the rocker cover to the air cleaner assembly at a point past where the air would be filtered so only clean air is getting sucked into the engine cause you obviously dont want dirty air mixing with your oil

reading above people assume that its sucked into the top of the carby, that is incorrect, the pressure is lower bellow the carby then in the air cleaner so the air will always flow through the engine and out the pcv valve, most people, myself included remove this inlet hose when changing air cleaners and put a stand alone filter on the rocker cover, nothing changes in how it operates it just looks better

note too that v8's have the pcv and inlet on different rocker covers so it flows from one head through the crankcase and out the other head, better design then what they can do on a 6

Just went through over a year and a half worth of inboxes on fb to find this Knew I'd measured them once before for someone.

Falcon badge is one inch in from edge of tailgate, and half an inch higher than the line across the tailgate if you know what I mean.

Falcon badge is 10.5" from top edge of tailgate and 8.5" from bottom

I don't have measurements for the Ford badge but I daresay it'd be the same distance in, and if you measured the distances from top to bottom, you should be able to figure out where the badge should sit in relation to the measurements if that makes sense.

No, they don't Dave. Not the XF one. Or at least not the blue Ford one.

This is where they were on my tailgate when I first got my ute, always looked right to me. Not on there now though so I can't take measurements.

There are a few m90s off commodores going around. They seem to just fit under the bonnet of a falcon (didnt on my cortina) cause the carby is mounted behind the charger. They seem to work but you cant boost them they just turn into heat pumps. Ive done one they work to about 200hp and then you push them harder to make more and they go the other way

The little s14s like a rod shop kit i would not bother ive not run this setup but they dont work the money you spend vs gain it would not be worth it

Ive done 3 blower setups on 250s. The first was a old wade superchager setup it gave good gains over the basic NA engine, it was on 7psi but it was a super heavy charger and the bracket would fail all the time, i sold it and went to a m90 off a commodore. I made a longer snout and made it fit a 4 barrel manifold. It worked yes but as soon as i tryed to push it past 10psi it would make less power i got 210rwhp out of it but the engine was making a 163hp before the blower so not much real gain since it cost about 2500 bucks to setup

My last setup is a B&M roots blower on a custom manifold and on 7psi it flew, At 12 is was very good, at 15 i killed the engine  but it would turn the tyres 1st 2nd 3rd and a fair bit of 4th on a boat ancor XF with a 245 tyre. I never dynoed it but its as fast as my ute so at least 300rwhp on a engine that was not even built for boost with a very small cam. I built it to get 400 at the tyres on a built engine and i know it could do it without to much hassle

ill ding a few pictures out as they looked cool i dont think i have any of the m90 one as i never had a camera back then the wade one i have a few a mate took while i was making it and just dummyed up in the car

the B&M one in the XF heres a video i took of it a while ago before i smashed the engine LOL

edit it will not work ill try again later

No, but it's heaps easier. You have to take the door cards off anyway to make sure it goes right to the bottom of the channel & to pop the windows out from there is piss easy. Just push the little plastic plugs out & maneuver the window out carefully. I did it by myself but someone to hold the window while you f**k around would be even easier

You could actually do it with the windows in & door cards on but guaranteeing you've done a good job would be a gamble

Setting up is easy enough buy an e85 carby run fuel lines and buy a fuel pump that is compatible with alcohol. It uses about an extra 30% more than petrol.. Keeping a carby tuned on pump e85 is a different story. Alcohol evaporates and maybe different blends season to season youd be forever changing jets. E85 is hydroscopic meaning it absorbs water over time and corrodes alluminium. Even ate the nickel plating off my fuel bowl screws.

    Less hassel running efi. Imo.
