CHESTNUTXE got a reaction from deankxf in X FILES
Show something that dont make sense on your car ,like a rare option or thrown in on the assembly line,this number looks like something from the factory ,never seen this ever on a xe ,its definatly the original wheel as everything else on this car is,and being a 3/82 my guess is its a numberd prototype thrown in on the assembly line that no one knew about cause who would have seen the back of it in that 1 minute to install it,4/82 was the release date on the xe,and plenty of cars were being built in feb and march for stock to the public to snap up.

CHESTNUTXE reacted to FOMOCOHO in XD XE steering column length?
Yep... XE ghia steering wheel & column in my XD. So much more comfy.
-
CHESTNUTXE reacted to SLO247 in XD XE steering column length?
Yeah the column is different, the wheel does indeed sit closer in an XD.
-
CHESTNUTXE reacted to deankxf in XD XE steering column length?
there must be, because XD had a dished wheel, and XE and XF/XG were flat wheel..
you notice this when sticking an XE wheel on XD and it nearly touches the blinker stalk
-
CHESTNUTXE reacted to macman in XD XE steering column length?
Is there a difference in length for XD or XE steering columns? Reason I ask is because the steering wheel in my XD is very close to the driver, have to squeeze past it to get in/out (I don't think I'm THAT fat)? I'm sure my old XE wasn't like it.
Otherwise I might consider an aftermarket steering wheel as the XD GL type one does come forward a fair bit too.

CHESTNUTXE got a reaction from deankxf in BW40 selector nut removal
I find this interesting as I have to do the same thing when doing my t bar conversion
-
CHESTNUTXE reacted to deankxf in BW40 selector nut removal
looks to be some decent thread there still if you can stack a couple of good washers on the outside of the selector arm and then fit a new nut where the ok threads are.

Just trying to get this nut off... might be threaded because its turning but going nowhere.

CHESTNUTXE reacted to waderobertson in BW40 selector nut removal
Trying to replace leaking selector seal, how do I get the bloody nut off? Think I read a post way back that said the nut requires a special tool or a simple hack I'm unaware of?
Cheers.

CHESTNUTXE reacted to deankxf in EF XR6 3.45 diff
i think the mounting point for watts link is lower on the AU diff, which better suits the XE XF watts link when you lower the car.
(don't think the arms themselves are swapped)

CHESTNUTXE got a reaction from deankxf in Shocks for lowered wagon
with my new chestnut sedan im keeping the 4.1 and will replace all 4 springs in the sport low with good qlty shocks ,the 6cyl kings are different to the v8 ones,i remember one thing i did with the old chestnut car was fit v8 front springs while it was still a 4.1 and it wasnt heavy enough to look low at the front but once v8 was fitted it dropped .

CHESTNUTXE got a reaction from deankxf in Shocks for lowered wagon
rear was fine with just sport low springs,but add a fmx,full iron 351c and sport low went to super low with all that weight,i ended up putting std v8 front king springs back in it and raised it just enough for a better ride and still looked a bit low,more like esp ride height,and yeah when i checked the bump rubbers they were hitting the car,so i chopped them a bit ,it did work but like i said i went back to std v8 king at the front and it was a lot better.

CHESTNUTXE reacted to ZKFairlane in BORGWARNER T BAR AUTO BW35/40
Mine's an Aug 84 efi. It's a BW40 with the later shifter mechanism (black plastic).
Here's as pic from above;
The workshop manual states that the 35 was replaced with the 40 concurrent with the introduction of EFI in 1983 (as you've stated earlier), but that "these transmissions are of the same basic design". The listed differences are mainly internal except for a change tot he extension housing to suit the revised speedo drive location.
There's a diagram for each linkage setup in the manual;
The drawing of the early version makes it a bit hard to workout what shape the long shaft is.
There does seem to be some differences to the linkages;
- The gearbox linkage on the early goes up and in where the later one goes up and out, and
- The tbar linkage going down on the early seems to be straight where the one on the later bends out.

CHESTNUTXE reacted to cisco in BORGWARNER T BAR AUTO BW35/40
Have a look at my post in "The Wreckers". I have a BW 35 gearbox complete with bell housing, converter, shifter, hump and cooling lines. Was regularly serviced and working perfectly when removed and replaced with a single rail.
The blue/gray console is available too.
Also I have a BW 40 which was reconditioned at some time too.
I am located in Bundaberg. You can pick them up or I can deliver to Gold Coast.
Private Message me with phone number and email address and I can send you photos and we can negotiate a price.
There is a steering column also which from memory came out of 4 speed manual XD.
