Drew442 got a reaction from Outback Jack in EFI Throttle body question
I'd recommend keeping idle control if it has AC or is an auto.
If it's manual and no AC you can get away without it.

Drew442 got a reaction from Valvebouncer in Budget boost rebuild, pistons and rings
I'm in the middle of building an au vct motor. They adjust 6 degrees from memory. It'll have a BW 66mm turbo.
I'll let you guys know how that goes.

Yeah. I have a 94da and a 96da block here. We pulled the 94da down last weekend and the head mating surface doesn't look that good.
We'll pull down the 96da on the weekend and see what it looks like.
I'm just using ACL duraglide bearings but i've got chrome rings. Everything else stock EF.

I've got nason head bolts and timing set here for my turbo build. I'll let you know how they go.

That's why every car built today has VCT.

Drew442 got a reaction from 77xcfalcon in 76da block dizzy options
What ECU do you have?
You'll need to run the dizzy to match the ECU.
If it's a Ford ECU from an XF our later you'll need to run the XF type TFI distributor (grey module)
If it's the bosch ECU from an XE you'll need the dizzy with the bosch module. The one the other guys have been referring to as solid state.
You can probably run points with the bosch ECU but it'll have to be 12 volts.
If you have an aftermarket ECU then you need have a look at the manual for that. Most support TFI. But for the bosch dizzy, the black module may need to be removed from under the metal case to get spark control.

Drew442 reacted to Gav in 4.0 ED jerking after manual conversion
I'd read the " extra tips" in the installation notes. They explicitly state that improperly cleaned ECU contacts are a cause of fuel pump priming issues. Make sure the contacts are clean because it's the first thing they will tell you to do when you make contact with them.
I've used their product without issue. I made sure the ECU contacts were fastidiously prepared before I inserted the chip......give it a go and see how things run then...

Pump keeps priming means the flash is bad. Either for the wrong box or just corrupt.
Who flashed it?

Drew442 got a reaction from deankxf in gas research wiring diagram
Did you replace/repair the wiring to the boot. Deankdx's pic is correct except it should be lock-offs (plural). There's a lock off on the tank. It's probably obvious but I thought I'd mention because you seem like a novice with gas.
There should be a 2 core wire running from the the back of the car. One for the lock off and the other for the fuel level. Although given the peel box you have you may be using a gauge interface in the boot and jumping on to the fuel gauge wiring there, which is pretty standard for straight gas.

Drew442 got a reaction from bear351c in smoking after oil change!
Penrite HPR5 works well too. You can often get it for ~$40 for 6L too if you keep your eye out.
The heavy stuff is robbing you of power and fuel economy.

That oil is wrong. Drop it and put 5.5L of something lighter in it. I run 10w-30 in the 3.9 and I've run 0w in crossflows before.
The issue sounds like PCV. Make sure the valve works and was plumbed correctly after the head was changed.

Drew442 got a reaction from gerg in WIDEBAND AIR/FUEL GUAGE
I've got a LMA-3 logger and LC-1 wideband. I've also just bought the pocket logger, arrived last friday but didn't have time on the weekend to install it.
Here's my AFR target table on the J3 tuning spreadsheet for the 3.9 with EL ECU
I've been putting widebands in cars for years. I recommend it, it's way easier with the logger and logging it against vacuum and throttle position.
My LMA-3 is set up at the moment to log vehicle speed, wideband, engine vacuum, throttle position, rpm and I've just received my pressure transducer so i can log the fuel pressure also.
