SXE357 got a reaction from SMIKXF / YEABRA in Clevo 351 in XF Falcon/ZL Fairlane/FE LTD?
    Hi guys,

Has anyone had any experience with a 351 in any of the XF series cars, with the different firewall?

I have fitted an ZL Fairlane Firewall into my XE, which has also had a 351 fitted, as the firewall protrudes further into the Engine bay, there is very little space between the rear of the 351 and the firewall, this causes the problem of the heater hoses bending at an extreme angle and/or coming in contact with the engine.

Im trying to find a work around, maybe 90 degree elbows flush up against the firewall, and the hoses running out from there.

    Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

The Reaper has been a 6 year project so far, but finally finishing him off.

Yeah I get to that stage all the time, Ive just learnt now to stop and come back when I feel like doing it, other wise Im doing it again.

Thanks mate, I appreciate your input, could have been a few months earlier though hehehehe, but the elogated holes turned out alright, and the engine fits in nicely, there is room for all hoses at the back and the gearbox fits and there is plenty of manoeuvre room with the tail shaft, so Im a happy man.

Your idea does have merit, though. Next time......

The gearbox crossmember has enough play in its holes to move it forward as well, its only moving half an inch at the most, so not a big movement. There is plenty of length in the tail shaft spline for it to move forward.
Why would you muck around welding more plates on when elongating the holes does exactly the same thing?

There are other guys on here with far more experience on this than me, they could answer your questions better, but from what Ive seen with mine, its not an issue, as I said, the engine is only moving forward cm, not feet.

    Hi all,
I've done this quite a few times by gently heating the adjustment knob with a heat gun and pulling straight off. Install is just pushing straight back on, hope that helps.

I like how you have done the lines, my lines are fully flex , no steel lines , so i have to cable tie the shit outta it so it doesnt touch the engine lol

It might pay to get some heat shielding like this for the lines.

It was fairly cheap and provides shielding up to 1200 degrees.

Well this little project is finished.

Mounted the bracket, fitted the pump, 2 new hoses, high pressure one made by Pirtek.

Very happy with the result, just need to see how the hoses are affected due to the proximity of the extractors.

    Ok bit of an update.

Astra P/S pump purchased and positioned, this gets rid of a belt driven accessory, as a result I have fitted a Gilmer belt, with one belt slot, this will be for the Air Con Compressor, which allows it to sit very close to where it does on a I6, therefore hoping that I can use the existing air con hoses with little modification.

    Cheers Nath-25,

It was a very worn out engine when I got it, I stripped it right down, got it cleaned up and a rebore, and rebuilt it using all new stuff, owes me about $3500, worth every cent, and I loved building it, so looking forward to seeing it run, hopefully before Christmas.

Change the compressor to an ef el type - more compact, but you need to go serpentine belt.

Ir try a commodore sanden 507 unit.  Little more compact with the ports on the top of the unit.

Because they look like absolute shit sitting on top of the motor?

One thing I hate about Clevos is when they have a A/C fitted, pop the bonnet to look at a nice old V8 and BAM! massive ugly compressor in your face.

why not put the compressor up on the left side where it belongs

another problem you cant cut a little off as the motor lifts from the left to the right ,and youl find the compressor smashing into the sway bar mount all the time ,

I think I will stick to Redheads way of doing it, initial bit of messing around re elongating holes etc, but a better result over all with no modifying the firewall, and I do want the ar con to work.

Thanks for all your input Fellas.

easy conversion dont cut shit ,,get a die grinder ,elongate the holes on the engine xmember forward, then get cleveland engine mount platesan elongate holes to the rear 1 inch on both parts, with the heater hoses stick a small piece of wooden dowl in them an gently pull upwards being careful not to break or split them, you dont need to hit cut belt the fire wall just leave it alone ,you will however have to get rid of that stupid fire wall pad, and trim down those long heater studs,

you will need to get power steering hoses made

use v8  xd xe radiator or xf 2x core heave duty radiator

if u need more info please ask as ive done this conversion heaps of times ,
