Slow250XC reacted to deankxf in Driveshaft length
@CHESTNUTXE will have a 3.45 gear surplus soon (if its for a borgwarner gearbox?)

Slow250XC reacted to gerg in Crossflow Problem (breaks down at 3500 rpm)
Mate this one's a deusie...
As I was reading each thing you tried, I would think of another thing and you'd already tried that too.
You say "breaking down" as if it feels like coil breakdown.
Maybe instead of continuing throwing nice expensive parts at it, you could just book a bit of dyno time with someone who knows carbies. You can load up the engine and watch what the ignition is doing on an oscilloscope and/or timing light, also AFRs will tell how the carby is tuned. Often, carby problems are ignition problems.
Being a mechanic myself, am no fan of paying someone else to spin spanners on my old jalopies, but sometimes you just need someone with the right gear to get to the heart of the matter.
How have you got the MSD hooked up? They want a direct supply to and from the battery, not from your key switch. At peak output, they do draw quite a few amps. Plug gaps aren't anywhere near as fussy with MSD. It generally fires them no matter how fouled or worn they are, so you can pretty much rule that issue out.

Fairlane/LTD shafts are the same wheelbase as utes and wagons also (same floorpan) just in case you come across one of them for parts.
Utes and wagons use the same leaf springs as well, but I'm unsure about Fairlanes being the same here.
My XE wagon uses an alloy EF wagon shaft and flange. That was a straight bolt-on.

if you wanted to keep your current tailshaft you'll need a hybrid yoke as the E series(flat flange yoke) is 1310 and the X series is smaller(not sure what it is)
otherwise, just get an EB ED ED EL SEDAN tailshaft and it will go straight in to XA to XF sedan

Thanks guys, as i thought. Next plan will be to fit flat flange to xc driveshaft.

E series sedan fit X series sedan
E series wagons and utes fit x series wagons utes.
I have a ED diff in the ute with a XH steel ute tail shaft.

Not sure on XH (later models) but on the early stuff, XA - XE etc..... the ute has longer leaf springs, and tailshaft.
Pretty sure the Utes were set up on the Fairlane/wagon wheel base. Hence they too have longer cart springs, and tailshaft,
Prob best to install diff and trans, then measure it. Don't forget, full weight on the tyres. (Dont have the diff hanging)

For those dead bugs stuck to your bumper after a weekend away, stretch a soaking wet beach towel over the area and leave for an hour. Then wash off as normal.

Sorry for late response, not a windsor one. Made for e series speedway motors by a crowd here in NZ.
Was dirty bw35 before so no comparison.

Yeah it costs a lot to defy the laws of physics, but some get a kick out of it.... Good on them, the world would be boring if everything was LS

It’s been a while so I thought I would update a bit! So have found that the Heater Core was absolutely rotten, which is why it was leaking water. So whole dash out time to replace that. While it was out I replaced the fan solinoid (as it was only working on one setting) and fixed up a few cracks in the climate control unit.
I think I have finished wiring in the Megasquirt with all the factory ECU now disconnected. The only cables which were left were those which controlled the emissions controls which is right (according to the wiring diagram), just need to put in a vacuum line to the MAP sensor built into the Megasquirt.
Have found some massively dodgy stuff in the wiring loom too.
Have also started removing the black stripes on the side and am going to be painting the bumpers.

Goes to show that EFI doesn't make more power than carby, it's just more efficient. Which doesn't matter a shIt at WOT

On night 2 of the Aussies we were 12th fastest out of 96 cars, with the wrong diff gears in because we broke the shorter gears.
4 trips thru the scrutineering shed, basically after every heat. Fair to say the old crossflow upset a few big dollar efi teams. Makes it sweeter that the car passed every test.

Crossflow powered cars first and third in the 2019 Queensland Modified Sedan Title.
Mighty Clarko's Performance XE came home first, FG Falcon 2nd and Shallcross Cortina 3rd. FORD podium lock out. Yahoo.
Long live the mighty crossflow.

Yep. Clarko has tooled up to make the wheels to suit x flow. He also has the magnets and msd sensors. Clarko's performance.
Ive got the boss to suit Romac and Ross balancers, and I'm sure Clarko can make one to,suit whatever balancer you have.

Have links to stepped studs and roller rockers on that page. Have been happy with them so far but haven't done fek all miles to test them properly.
Had to file fit the guide plates a tad but lots of people would run them as is. I just like my shit right.
