SXE357 91 Posted July 2, 2015 Hi guys, Has anyone had any experience with a 351 in any of the XF series cars, with the different firewall? I have fitted an ZL Fairlane Firewall into my XE, which has also had a 351 fitted, as the firewall protrudes further into the Engine bay, there is very little space between the rear of the 351 and the firewall, this causes the problem of the heater hoses bending at an extreme angle and/or coming in contact with the engine.Im trying to find a work around, maybe 90 degree elbows flush up against the firewall, and the hoses running out from there.Any suggestions gratefully accepted. 1 SMIKXF / YEABRA reacted to this
TUFE 284 Posted July 2, 2015 Can you cut and shut the firewall to move the outlets?
wagoon 2,429 Posted July 2, 2015 Move the engine forward? 1 revhead reacted to this
XES 859 Posted July 2, 2015 Does it use the the AC? If not run your heater hoses through the ac condenser. 4 revhead, XTREME KARTS XF, Thom and 1 other reacted to this
revhead 1,392 Posted July 2, 2015 easy conversion dont cut shit ,,get a die grinder ,elongate the holes on the engine xmember forward, then get cleveland engine mount platesan elongate holes to the rear 1 inch on both parts, with the heater hoses stick a small piece of wooden dowl in them an gently pull upwards being careful not to break or split them, you dont need to hit cut belt the fire wall just leave it alone ,you will however have to get rid of that stupid fire wall pad, and trim down those long heater studs, you will need to get power steering hoses made use v8 xd xe radiator or xf 2x core heave duty radiator if u need more info please ask as ive done this conversion heaps of times , 6 hendrixhc, Thom, Outback Jack and 3 others reacted to this

bear351c 10,270 Posted July 3, 2015 Agreed. +1. I use an XF rad on my 351, no issues. (with a shroud, and proper spacing boss) 1 XTREME KARTS XF reacted to this
SXE357 91 Posted July 3, 2015 I was thinking about the ZL Fairlane radiator, is in very good knick, would that be suitable?
revhead 1,392 Posted July 3, 2015 yeah thatl work, fine
SXE357 91 Posted July 5, 2015 Gidday ReVhEaD, Is bending the pipes up the only way to go? Im assuming that is so you can still get the heater box out if you need to? I don't have a firewall pad in the engine bay, and when you say trim down the long heater studs, they are what the nuts go onto to hold the heater box to the firewall? Cheers
revhead 1,392 Posted July 6, 2015 yes ,but its not the only way you can pull the dash n play with the heater outlets ,how much room have u got back there, and yes the long heater studs
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted July 6, 2015 I've been told you can remove the heater core and rotate it 180° which moves the outlets up towards the AC pipes.
SXE357 91 Posted July 6, 2015 Not sure how much room, not a lot though, RevHead. Will be having a good look at it over the weekend, will work out a solution, but I think moving the engine forward and bending the heater pipes is the way to go as you suggest
revhead 1,392 Posted July 7, 2015 as the others sugested you can use the air con pipes for the heater so long as the condensor hasnt got a hole init
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted July 7, 2015 I wouldn't recommend hooking the heater up to the A/C condenser. I done it on my ute for a while, and the air from the vents was always warm, even if the heater selector was on cold. Switched back to normal heater outlets and it worked normally. 1 revhead reacted to this
SXE357 91 Posted July 7, 2015 I think I will stick to Redheads way of doing it, initial bit of messing around re elongating holes etc, but a better result over all with no modifying the firewall, and I do want the ar con to work. Thanks for all your input Fellas. 3 XTREME KARTS XF, bear351c and revhead reacted to this

djjase 10 Posted November 23, 2015 Yep done it a few times. Here is pic of current 351 in a XF ute, prior to changing to gas research - shows where the heater hoses are
djjase 10 Posted November 23, 2015 I'm running a full XF Ghia digital dash too, everything works, even the adjustable steering column - also put in a AU console
SXE357 91 Posted November 23, 2015 Thats funny, I wanted to use the adjustable steering column out of my ZL but for some reason it came out a lot further than the XE one, no matter how I played with it, it wouldnt fit. So I kept the original XE column, was disappointed.
