Main difference is that the XW & XY  shifter linkage is in the hump & bolt to the floor. They are puss!
the XB style bolts to the box & will work with a standard X series manual hump. I run a hurst Indy shifter on my toploader & it's been modded to fit in the factory console & just finished fitting a reverse light switch.

    I have a similar setup.
30 thou over with 2v closed chamber heads, XE274 cam, air gap manifold with 750dp.
    I had a C4 with 3000 stally & 3.45 rear end.
Also had a 2.5 inch exhaust with try y's.
    It moved along nicely.
I am currently making some changes which include match porting, blending the bowls & cleaning up around the guides. 4 into 1 extractors, twin 2.25 exhaust, top loader, 3.9 diff gears & a HP centre for my holly.
Will be interested to see what it does.

Calm down mate, I'm not having a go at anyone.
I'm not saying what's right & what's wrong, but for me personally elongating a hole that much on an engine mount pederstal just seems wrong.
For all the effort to fit the engine, I would spend a little more time to prevent an elongated hole.
The reason I ask about the gearbox output is, moving an inch forward is fine, but then a different diff setup goes in & it sits an inch further back.
Next thing the tailshaft is laying on the road.
    Just small things to consider.

mEven using an E series roller block.
They had the E7 heads. Not as good as GT40's or alloys, but still better than early weezer heads.
Setup for unleaded & the right plug angle.

The plug angle is the reason I didn't mention GT40p heads in the beginning. It is likely that a set of custom extractors would need to be made to fit those heads. If the OP is keen to get hands on & do port work themselves, the cast heads might be half a chance, but if your paying for port work to be done, the $$$$ soon start to add up.
If you want something that is cost effective, reliable & sounds cranky, get a late model EFI Windsor. Fit a performer manifold, 600 vac secondary holly & electronic dizzy. The roller can fitted to those things sound tough as once the injection is taken off them.
If you get an AU 5.0 with the GT40p heads, it might be worth getting the AU exhaust manifold to fit or extractors custom made.

For what you will spend on getting Windsor heads ( or any cast iron head for that matter ) getting done up & ported, throw them in the bin & get a set of AFD's. I ported my cast 2V clevo heads myself & spent 25 odd hours on them.
For an engine shop to reco heads, you will run around 700 bucks then you have around 30 hours of port work at a minimum 100 bucks an hour.
End result is a huge bill & you still have a shit set of cast iron weezer heads.

Also keep in mind that on an early Windsor they run press in rocker studs. Once you start increasing lift & spring pressures, it won't take much to punch the press in studs out. I would invest in getting screw in studs. You will need to get the heads drilled & tapped for this.
Sounds extremes, but better than a horrible valve train failure.
A 600 vacuum secondary with a duel plain manifold will be nice on a Windsor. Keep in mind that there is no need to go too big, due to being heavily restricted by Windsor small port heads.

Cheers jack. You never know if you never go.
I'd hate to have not gone & forever question did i miss out on something good.
Sometimes it takes abit of effort to find some good gear out there.
I almost bought it because I was there with the trailer & didn't want to go back empty.
Lucky for me I went with a mate who has walked around on this earth a few more years than me.
He simply said " look at this mess & honestly tell me what you can gain from it. Your only going to get this mess because you dragged a car trailer for 3 hours. " sometimes you can't beat the insight of age & experience & learning from my mates previous mistakes.

So the 378 was a complete fizz.
Drove nearly 3 hours with the car trailer to find a completely rusted out XD Fairmont. (That's ok, I was expecting that ). Not one piece of the vehicle was salvageable.
Under the bonnet was a bog stock clevo that had standard thermoquad carby, standard inlet, a set of 2v heads ( reciept for reco 8 years ago. )
Standard valve train & valve springs.
The auto oil was burnt & had bits of metal on the dip stick.
The engine wasn't seized, but it had blown the bottom hose at some point in spectacular fashion.
It was on his oldmans property & according to the owner of the car it went really hard ( he reckons he drove it ) & was a 378 because the old owner told him it was. His oldman told me that it arived on a trailer one day & he never even heard it fire up.
It was a shame to see the case so far gone, because it was a matching numbers Fairmont with a set of log books in the glove box. The car must have been loved at some point in time, but too far gone to save. I'm sure the plastic was starting to rust!

I'll have more news on this when I pick it up in a few days. If it's everything it's meant to be, I'll be extreamly happy.
Might even remove the top loader & run a C4.

Nath For $16999 you can have this package, 635hp at 7200rpm, 540ft/lb. at 5500.

Has a bunch of torque and revs bloody well. Should cover off what you are looking for.

Back to the 378, looking forward to hearing more about it.

I did toy around the idea of a 393w using the 3.85 crank, 351w rods and 302w pistons in a 351w block I had lying around. For a budget build it had potential to be good street motor.

Pushrod V8's have a unique place in Oz history, we need to preserve them, not flog the piss out of them.
Torque monster @ low revs = happy camper.
