Hahaha yeah I remember way back when I was a lad doing donuts in the HK I could get it to do perfect circles on dirt (one front wheel staying in the one spot). HQ just couldnt do that..... I remember a mate having a HQ with a 350 and it would go sideways in a straight line doing a burnout, that was kinda cool tho....

well picked up a parts xf ute that comes with what looks like a 2 1/2 inch exhaust. Started ripping it apart this arvo and will continue tomorrow as it a Ryan Day Off (RDO for those wondering) If I can get it started tomorrow (think its only the 3 pin plug not plugged into dizzy) I will move it into the shed and strip the shit out of the ute

If you had the battery out or disconnected, it may be the same as my XG and need you to Goose the throttle to set up the Throttle Position Sensor.
I HIGHLY recommend buying an OBD2 code reader, will save you a lot of grief and chasing ya tail. If there is a fault it will show it.
I'm leaning towards MAF sensor or TPS.

That's the muffler I run on my ute wagon, redback are OK, I run the muffler section and pipe, and have a free flow cat before that.
Sounds pretty good, better than a stock system. Mine is 2 1/2".
That price is a bit shit though, sure I have seen that set for around 180, change ya listings on ebay to lowest price and postage.... may help ya if you haven't done it already.

That's really odd....I was under the impression that a larger fluid tip was required for acrylics when compared with 2K. I've used a 1.8/2.0 tip in the past and haven't had a problem with runs. It's possible I tailored my technique to suit the rate of material deposition.....when the opportunity arises I may just try a 1.4 tip with acrylic to see how it goes.

Nitrous is where it's at, still get a cracking exhaust note, instant throttle response and instant 200hp when needed

Nath answer this question and be totally honest with yourself don't tell anyone the answer if you don't want but make sure you answer is honestly. Look into the future and see yourself driving your car and look at the tacho. Do you see the tacho revving over 6500rpm for long periods of time? If the answer is yes then look at the forged bottom end either the deal you can get or the spool kit that Sly said about. If you only see 6500rpm and over for a short period of time just run a standard 250 setup and use pistons from here http://www.precisionintl.com/ . I bought my pistons for my solid roller cammed crossflow with 10.5CR that I'm hoping will make over 300RWHP and will have rev limit set to around 6200rpm and they cost me $220 with hastings rings.
Seriously mate everyone likes to rev the engine a bit but you seem like you have a bit of mechanical sympathy so I can't see that you need to go to the expanse of a 200 rod setup. 200 rod setups are the same as e series cranks in a crossflow, if your revving high in the rpm range for long periods of time then it warranted (like a race car) other wise save yourself $2000 and spend that money else where.

    Finally

Short motor all zipped up. Checked TDC on the balancer with actual TDC. About 1 degree out so I'll live with that.

Here is a really poor picture of the brace I put on the foot of the pick up to give it a bit more support.

Now I just need to get my finger out and get the head sorted. Getting closer by the day but.

Bit more progress on the MSC. I cleaned up the xc tapered pushrods and a new timing cover from a late model xf. I prefer these because they have more timing graduations. I fitted a new seal - I hate oil leaks...

I also fitted the oil pump and made up a support for the standard pick up. I like to do this because when you have increased capacity and rev them I have seen the brazing crack. Forgot to take a photo of that so I will do it tomorrow. I also checked pick up to sump floor clearance. Another important aspect that should never be overlooked.

Anyway by tomorrow the short should be zipped up and hopefully I can squeeze some time in during the week to finish the head.

I think I got lost, way above my head but kudo's to you guys.....

The average bloke just plonks a set of extractors on knowing its going to be better than stock, couple that with a nice exhaust and its good for a bit extra grunt where you need it. I cant wait to save up and get a decent exhaust for my girl as I know that will improve things again. the 6-3-1 improved my low- midrange just with the extractors, which on a stock EFI is just where I need it. I have a few months to save for the exhaust, so hoping a nice 2.5 inch will do the trick nicely with a nice free flow muffler and I am set......

Looks like the crossflow fairy has been for a visit while I was away... Must be a strong bastard, engine blocks are pretty heavy.

Gonna be away most of the week but I will see if I can order a bunch of stuff and figure out a plan for the machining before I leave so it will hopefully be here by the time I get back. Hope you guys don't mind the inevitable "in way over my head but trying to fumble through it" questions

its come a long way in the last 8 months I have owned it, but still have a long way to go.....

I was offered a very good price for it the other day when I was thinking of swapping it for a XC but it needed way too much work (pics were better than real life)and declined... Thats when he offered me cash for my car, Part of me said take the money and run but another part of me said no way!!!

I still have the ZL..... Guess you know which way won.....

I bought a NOS Aunger louver from Bursons in 2007, before they went obsolete.

I bought it to fit to an XF Fairmont sedan which my Grandpa used to own.
He bought it in 86, sold it in 96, and I found it and bought it back, 11yrs later.

During that time, the guy who owned it for 11yrs (my Grandpa's mechanic) had removed the original Aunger louver,
so I bought another one to recreate the dream, of the car how I remember it as a young tacker.
