FORD_MAN got a reaction from Outback Jack in Snapping head bolts
Maybe time for studs, what did you have to remove the head for?
EDIT we posted seconds apart.. ft/lb instead of Nm explains a bit.
And yes the extension bar twists under load, I use Impact sockets & extension bars when I can.

I did the same with my XF stuck them up as far as possible, then punch into the sump and fish out with a magnet "on a stick"

FORD_MAN reacted to blownxd393 in Strongest Cleveland engine blocks?
Ok I will share my knowledge.
The strongest would be the simese bore nascar block. Very very rare. They would all be in the USA. Ive never seen one.
Next the nascar block none Siamese. If you have one and it has core shift (which is very common in Australia) just fit a sleeve and some grout. I will be fine.
A bad tune will kill any block especially with boost.
A lot of yank std block I've got have really clean inner bores. Due to. They use inhibitors for cold climates . In the early days hear ppl alway just ran water.
My next pic of the bunch would be an xd black block. And as mention check for core shift and rusty corrosion inside of the bores.
It needs to be free of scale and rust to do a proper sonic test and even that won't help with a porous pin hole which is common.
Please don't confuse the nascar block with a bubble block or aka pillow. Same pillows on the side, same as the xe nascar but no solid pan rails or bell crank.
Fyi. My current blown clevo is a nascar. My high boost clevo iam building now with a dart iron eagle 9.2 and solid chi heads.
My big bore Arrow is due in December...can't wait. See. How it goes as it will have over 800 n/a on scm heads.

FORD_MAN got a reaction from XTREME KARTS XF in Carburettor overhaul
Holley's are easy as, it probably take under an hour depending on how anal you are with cleaning it.
thats why it takes me 4 hours to kit & port a weber.
Thermoquads aren't to bad, just lots of linkages and crap. my first carby I rebuilt was a thermoquad.

Xflow - 345hp @ 6100 333ftlb @ 4700
FG - 355hp @ 6050 342ftlb @ 4500
same dyno, same fuel brand, same manifold, same exhaust, same tuner, 3 years apart!!
So thats a stock FG DOHC head port, chamber, valve angles etc which is different to BA DOHC also we love vct saw one simple change at 5000 to the exhaust cam and gained 20hp!!! the cams have 60 degrees of movement and we are using all of that through the rev range.
Should be back out racing in the next few weeks if all goes well.

FORD_MAN got a reaction from XTREME KARTS XF in Line locker fittment
Thanks Pete I'll remember for later, need to get front brakes to come unstuck at the moment. Takes 119ft/lb to turn front wheels.
Don't need line lock in the front for manual burnouts, just learn to heel toe brake & accelerator,
press brake & accel at same time with right foot, dump clutch, spin, upgears. easy I do it in my AU.

FORD_MAN got a reaction from gerg in MSD 6AL-2 Programmable: Anyone Running Them?
Shouldn't be to bad on the dyno, my tuner told me a back in the day a stock 302C used to make 125rwhp or 130rwhp for a good one.
My 302c has the next cam up (214@0.050" 510" 110LC) and makes 215rwhp. 90hp over stock
