Nope...the manifold uses a thick 20mm or so spacer and thick gaskets and to tune em right you need to be able to fit a syncronizer to the carb bell to set em up.
Needed room for that. All this bull shit about space is just that bull shit. Ive seen cars on dynos where you close the bonnet with 5mm above the carb make exactly same hp bonnet open or closed.
As for carbs to use no carb beats the webbers. The fab work involved in the 3 Holleys is too much and they require a serious engine to work. Webers work on stock or race type deals.
Tuning em is sooooooo easy and parts easy to get.
My vote Webbers for lyf
PS the air box is no faster than just open carb trumpets too. Ive done it waaaaaay too many times to be wrong. On the street it may be better but my deal no way.

Hey guys, I just came across this thread and joined up. I have just built a supercharged crossflow for my vauxhall Gasser Drag car. I’ve got a YouTube channel TasTuned which has a few details and also a Facebook page. A few weeks ago I actually had a drag race with Rob Thorpe in SLY250 at Wilby. He won!! But the boost has now been upped and i plan to get it on the dyno soon to get her running perfect.

Skimming the head on a quench type combustion chamber needs more meat off than an open chamber, as part of the bore area is already flat so is not included in the CC calculation. Every head design is different but for a closed chamber clevo, 5 thou off removes 1CC of chamber. I should imagine crossys to be similar since although the bore is smaller, the quench area is proportionally less than on a clevo.
Another very important aspect is quench distance. If your pisons are down the hole, no amount of head machining will fix the poor quench that results, regardless of how high your compression is.
Example: If i had my time over again, the clevo would've copped a set of proper zero-deck pistons instead of the Hypertec rebuilders, which sit down the hole too far. Either that or skim the block to get to zero. I ended up taking 0.025" off the heads to get to a bit over 10:1. If I'd have taken the meat off the deck instead, it would have only needed 0.015" to achieve the same cc, with improved quench.
Best quench distance is generally said to be 0.040", which happens to be the thickness of a standard head gasket. People do go thinner than this but are pushing the envelope for kissing the head with the piston top.

Was 2 degrees off being dot to dot. Sorted now though this time next week i should be able to give a review (yeah right plans never work out haha).

Turbos are cheaper and easier to get power from sure.
But if we wanted cheap and easy power we wouldnt be in the crossflow section! Lol

The Engine Masters episode pretty much put that argument to bed. Looks aside, running similar boost between rootes type and centrifugal and the latter won out by 60hp or so purely by less parasitic loss. You can easily intercool too unlike on a GM blower. Only advantage of the rootes is it comes on strong down low whereas the centrifugal builds with speed.
I remember my brother's VX Berlina with the factory blower. Great midrange but a little underwhelming up top, no quicker really than an AU XR6.

Why not a blow thru centrifugal like a Vortex or Paxton. Or the better of them a ProCharger.
My car will not be NAT ASP forever and the benifits of a ProCharger over a aspo or turbo engine in what “I do” with my car is what I’ll do next.
Make a easy 650hp run bottom 10’s high 9’s xflow powered and still get props and street cred off the people who matter.

Lol, pretty much happens with these threads, turboing is easier to do, cheaper and offers better bang for the buck.
However much of the info is interchangeble as supercharging has similar needs to turbo setups.
If you are dead keen on a supercharger i'd still give mike vine a call as he has done lots of force fed crossflows and can give you some good pointers on the engine itself.
You should be able to google him pretty easily.
Im still keen to see what you come up with.

Craig Smith builds all his race engines this way. His engines have actually won Bathurst a few times so may know what he's on about.

You need to measure the crank for size,buy bearings to suit then fit and measure then fit crank and measure.
Or you could measure crank and buy bearings to suit and just deal with it co I know 95% of people building engines would do this. I'm not one of em. Most don't check end float just pull the crank forward and back and thats it LOL.
