adrianphu123 73 Posted June 23, 2016 Hey guys Looking to mount up a set of EL thermos to an XF radiator, how have people done it? Thanks, adrian
slydog 7,873 Posted June 23, 2016 Top of plastic cowl screwed to rad.Bottom of cowl held in place by soft mount foam backed DC zip locks.
wagoon 2,429 Posted June 24, 2016 I bolted the top as Sly did but I went a different way with the lower section. My lower section is far from neat and tidy but it does the job and should keep the thermo's mounted nice and firm to the radiator.
76gxl 30 Posted June 24, 2016 I bolted to the top of radiator and pop riveted small angle brackets to the bottom of the shroud that sit in the bottom radiator clips. Used a Davies Craig digital controller that turns the fans on at your pre determined temp. Is a twin controller so turns the second fan on around 10 seconds after the first fan to reduce load. Works really well.
76gxl 30 Posted June 24, 2016 This was on a xc radiator, looking at Wagoons photos the xf radiator might be shorter??
tpak addict 1,909 Posted June 24, 2016 I used a Thermo switch off a Diahatsu as it has a 3/8 thread to control the fans on high speed Sent from my SM-J100Y 1 gerg reacted to this
wagoon 2,429 Posted June 24, 2016 The xf radiator is the same heights as the original xe radiator that was in my car, the xf radiator is much wider though and is required to mount the thermo's to. Both my original XE and the XF radiators were to suit 6 cylinder. My setup is triggered by a Tridon thermatic switch which screws into the cylinder head. There are several different temp ranges available but my setup works perfectly with my heavily modified roller cam engine. This is the thermatic switch I'm using
hendrixhc 10,921 Posted June 24, 2016 This is mine from the XE http://www.ozfalcon.com.au/index.php?/topic/68-hendrixhcs-long-term-xe-project/?p=1961 Shows how and where i cut the fans to fit and mount them. http://www.ozfalcon.com.au/index.php?/topic/68-hendrixhcs-long-term-xe-project/?p=1965 1 SirkWhyXF reacted to this

Mr Polson 10,214 Posted June 25, 2016 The xf radiator is the same heights as the original xe radiator that was in my car, the xf radiator is much wider though and is required to mount the thermo's to. Both my original XE and the XF radiators were to suit 6 cylinder. XE were also avaliable with the wider radiator, and some XFs had the narrow one too. AC, EFI or tow pack meant the wider radiator was fitted. 1 gerg reacted to this
deankxf 20,290 Posted June 25, 2016 I used a Thermo switch off a Diahatsu as it has a 3/8 thread to control the fans on high speed Sent from my SM-J100Y im not a big fan of the gauge sender or fan switch in this location, i have had no water in the top hose many times in the last 20yrs or so with crossflows(headgasket leaks, welsh plugs, hose splits, leaky gas converters and water pumps and heater cores.. ) once the level of coolant drops they are not going to work properly unless you have a low coolant light(fairlane probably does though)
hendrixhc 10,921 Posted June 25, 2016 Nice neat job. Didnt end up using it in the XE. It now lives in the XC ( for a few more weeks anyways)!
tpak addict 1,909 Posted June 25, 2016 Fairlane does have low coolant light... Sent from my SM-J100Y
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted June 25, 2016 Fairmont Ghia also has it. AFAIK the sensors for it are in most XF radiators?
Lord_fahrquhar 2,580 Posted June 26, 2016 I used the tangs at the bottom of the radiator to hold and straps to connect to the factory mounts on top. Works grouse
