Ando81 2,949 Posted February 5, 2016 Hi lads, just got my crossflow back from the machine shop where I had cam, new pistons & rings and bearings fitted. I went to put the rocker arms back on and before I even got to tension them down tight I found number 4&5 exhaust rocker bolts stripped
gerg 10,871 Posted February 5, 2016 Helicoils are pretty good, would be a shame to waste an otherwise good head. You just need to be accurate with the drill and not go skewiff with the hole. 2 Thom and XTREME KARTS XF reacted to this
Thom 6,651 Posted February 5, 2016 +1 for the helicoil, when fitted correctly they are stronger than the original thread 3 Crazy2287, XTREME KARTS XF and gerg reacted to this
Ando81 2,949 Posted February 5, 2016 I've never put a tap into alloy before, just put a bit of cutting compound on it and go steady cutting the tap in the same as going into steel? 2 XTREME KARTS XF and Thom reacted to this

slydog 7,873 Posted February 5, 2016 Use a Re coil. Same as Heli coil but cheaper and come with drill tap and thread plus tool to set it all for waaaaaaaay less than Heli coil. 3 XTREME KARTS XF, Crazy2287 and Thom reacted to this
Ando81 2,949 Posted February 5, 2016 Cheers for the input lads, I've priced a kit and they are $55 to put recoils in it so I might carefully have a crack at that. 2 Thom and slydog reacted to this
wagoon 2,429 Posted February 5, 2016 If I remember correctly aren't you suppose to use kero as the cutting/cooling fluid for working on alloy heads? Â I used a re coil kit on my weber carby where the airfilter housing bolts to, no drama at all and as Thom said they are stronger than before.

TUFE 284 Posted February 5, 2016 I did this when putting my engine together. Almost 10,000km later and 14psi she is still working as intended. Helicoil ftw 1 Ando81 reacted to this
Ando81 2,949 Posted February 5, 2016 perfect time to machine it for screw in studs  Reason being Dave??? Forced induction?? I've put 5cc pistons in so that's probably out of the question now and the machine shop said the block had been taken down at some stage too
slydog 7,873 Posted February 5, 2016 Screw in studs in 7/16th roller rockers and some camshaft then add new single groove valves and some spring and hello xflow RPM But really screw in studs are just much stronger.   Thats sort of what he meant to say  4 Ando81, Thom, PRO250 and 1 other reacted to this
Ando81 2,949 Posted February 5, 2016 Ha ha I see, Dave's been keen to see a turbo hang off the side of it so I was only guessing where he was going there. 1 slydog reacted to this
slydog 7,873 Posted February 5, 2016 Dave loves turbo yes. You could if you had a nice big open style chamber boost it.  Just saying
PRO250 1,506 Posted February 6, 2016 Don't need studs or rollers for boost you don't need cam you don't need revs well unless you want to run 8s and still be a ok streeterI fit rollers to anything past 510 lift it makes the valve train last for everand yes just boost everything "that's what I was trying to say" rob missed the point I was trying to make LOL althow I am with his good valve train and rev the fooker out of it HAHA 3 XTREME KARTS XF, slydog and Ando81 reacted to this

Ando81 2,949 Posted February 6, 2016 have you picked a cam? what you running? Decided to go with a Clive Cam, 207 &207 @50. 110degree love separation and can't remember what he said lift was. I spoke to Clive and that's the one he recommended for more torque and safe to run on standard valve train.
gerg 10,871 Posted February 7, 2016 That will give great torque from 2000-4000 but probably top out at 5000. Really good all-rounder that will behave itself like a stocker but a bit more flavour happening when you jump on it. 2 wagoon and Ando81 reacted to this

I reckon I've only ever revved it to 4000 once so I should be pretty right 2 wagoon and gerg reacted to this
PRO250 1,506 Posted February 8, 2016 fit a 214 214 crow or 218 camtech I think anything under a 214 is to small even for a trailer puller work uteand it will make no power and not much more TQ then a stock cama 214 will still work with no convertor and stock gears but anything more you do does heaps for them ive done 170rwhp out iof a 214 one on a dead stock engine with 10.5 to 1 it would rip a tree out of the ground and was flat on its bum at 4600rpm my thorts only but ive done a fair few that 170hp one even went 14.5 in a corty with stock gears and convertor

TUFE 284 Posted February 8, 2016 Shit Dave, I've already had the cam installed and all seals replaced so I'm pretty much stuck with it now I will try it as it is now and hopefully it's not too bad. Must need a turbo then haha 1 Ando81 reacted to this

Ando81 2,949 Posted February 10, 2016 I've thought about it Dave but I'll leave it as it is now, it has to be an improvement. Worst experience today in my ute as a Prius pulled away from me going up a hill
