Free.51 2,727 Posted March 6, 2014 What type of motor oils would u guys suggest for a 302 clevo 15w-40 20w-50 etc. It's not hi performance or anything cheers-Chris
BigCav 464 Posted March 6, 2014 depending on oil pressures etc i would use HPR15 pr HPR30 by Penrite, they have more expensive oils like there 10tenths stuff but a plain old 302 HPR is more then enough 2 bear351c and XTREME KARTS XF reacted to this
agentkiwi 110 Posted March 6, 2014 Main thing is to settle on a good 1 & stick with it to get the benefits of that particular brand. I use valvoline engine armour 15-40 in summer & 10-30 in winter. Bit colder in NZ!! My Ford shop manual lists 20-40 for a 302. 1 smiddo reacted to this

bear351c 10,273 Posted March 6, 2014 If it's done a million miles, then a thicker oil would be better. 40W-70 or similar. 1 XTREME KARTS XF reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted March 6, 2014 I'm using Penrite 20W60 in my Clevo and it holds good pressure when hot. Mine is only 20,000 k's old though.
ronny 204 Posted March 7, 2014 Good comments above Also keep in mind engine temps If your motor runs hotter or works hard, go for a bit thicker oil And if you do use a thicker oil, make sure you are gentle with the revs when cold until the oil pressure starts dropping off
Trev Vaa 1,185 Posted March 7, 2014 penrite hpr30 is a safe bet if you don't wanna spend squillions. clevos from factory ran 20w50 i think, either way, the bearing tolerences are huge. so 20w60 is fine for what you're lookin at, again unless its done a million miles, then there's heaps 25w70 or 30w70 i would hold off on 40w70 unless you are certain you need it. Boss351 4 Posted March 19, 2014 Can't go wrong with Penrite HPR30 and just a Ryco Z9 filter for a pretty standard 302. Id change every 4 months or if it's a daily then every 5k kms

gerg 10,871 Posted March 19, 2014 Make sure it's got "extra zinc" noted on the label. Flat-tappet motors need it.
