Ando81 2,950 Posted July 9, 2013 Hey gang, can anyone tell me if there is any difference in length of tail shafts from utes to sedans. I've got a tail shaft out of my xf ute that I want to put into an e series diff in my sedan. Cheers for any help!
revhead 1,392 Posted July 9, 2013 if im not wrong ,ute is to loong!
n00bus m@x1mus 465 Posted July 9, 2013 Yes ute, wagon, fairlane, van are all the same.... sedan is shorter by about 60mmish
Ando81 2,950 Posted July 9, 2013 Yeah, I'd heard that ute and wagon were the same but not sedan. Bugger, might have to source an e series shaft out of say an ed/ef sedan then.

Ando81 2,950 Posted November 21, 2013 Does anyone know the difference in length between a ute and sedan tailshaft? Wondering if I could get the ute tailshaft changed to suit my sedan.
slydog 7,873 Posted November 22, 2013 Might be around 6" but not certain... 1 Ando81 reacted to this
bear351c 10,273 Posted November 22, 2013 Yeah, about that. 150mm (6 inches). Anyone who manufactures tailshafts, should be able to cut and shut the tailshaft, and rebalance it. Try Hardy Spicer or similar. I got one made for my XB ute, thicker walled tubing and beefier uni-joints, 'cos I have a heavy right boot.... 1 Ando81 reacted to this
RAWDEAL 222 Posted November 30, 2013 NEVER chuck em out. Chuck them IN a camp fire. Big baddaboom there gets to a point where you have 20 cars laying around and you think, maybe i SHOULD chuck something out hahah

gerg 10,871 Posted December 1, 2013 will cost way more to cut and shut a tailshaft than to just pull one out of a wreck
Ando81 2,950 Posted December 3, 2013 will cost way more to cut and shut a tailshaft than to just pull one out of a wreck Yeah, was wondering that. A mate has helped me out. He is giving me an ef sedan one to use in my xf sedan, reckons it will be the same length, fingers crossed.
jb351 7 Posted December 18, 2013 Recently put an EB diff into the XE, used a EF sedan Tailshaft, same length you'll be fine 1 Ando81 reacted to this
revhead 1,392 Posted December 19, 2013 if your using the ef diff youl need to mod the front lower control arm bush to fit the xf body 1 Ando81 reacted to this

Ando81 2,950 Posted December 19, 2013 if your using the ef diff youl need to mod the front lower control arm bush to fit the xf body Thanks rev, I got hold of some xf bushes to put into the ef arms to suit. Might be a good Christmas holidays project I think, then get it all sorted before I get back to work in the new year.
