hendrixhc got a reaction from gerg in 4.0 OHC - Fault finding hesitation/missing on acceleration.
Interesting read on the A/C.
Mine stopped working in the XG just before summer. Car got real hot and the AC hasnt worked since. Still idles and drives fine though.
I had a look on the weekend and the AC relay is switching but the clutch on the compressor doesnt cut in at all. I checked the over temp cut out and that is in tact as is the wiring to it. I wasnt able to find the 12v to the compressor yet and gave up. Something ill follow up when i can be stuffed.
The whole engine will be pulled soon with the windsor going in.

hendrixhc got a reaction from deankxf in Panko's Mk1 Escort (Round 2)
Just a thought, my ex brother in law had a mk1 escort and for ages he had the same issues. he ended up finding that he removed the fuel tank and upended it to clean it out. he found a seal from a metho bottle in there which was covering over the fuel outlet intermittently.

hendrixhc got a reaction from deankxf in Coil Spring Diff to Leaf Spring Conversion BW
Yeah i dont think i would do it that way.
I have some spring perches already. im just concerned the diff width will be to wide for the XC.
I guess the best way to find out is to remove th current diff and do some measuring.
I dont want to cut the coil mounts of until i am sure cause ill use it in the XE if it wont suit the XC.

hendrixhc reacted to deankxf in Coil Spring Diff to Leaf Spring Conversion BW
there was a photo going around that someone had welded a plate on the bottom of the lower control arm mounts as it's spaced the same as a leaf spring.. looks less professional
there's another i have of photo of Clints XF ute with built in lowering into his spring perch that was made by his brother i think..
with this, someone mentioned using the top arm mount to make a traction bar like the XB GT etc had

Has anybody ever converted a BW coil spring diff over to leaf spring?
I have 3 LSD diffs sitting in the shed ( all coil) and want to change put the 2.77 form the XC to the 3.45 LSD out of an Eseries XR6/8.
The process seems pretty straight forward, cut off all the shit I dont need and wend the spring hangers i bought on.
Obviously observing pinion angle and getting the bastard centered correctly. I was wondering are the dimension of the diffs are the same? I havent measured yet.
Yes i realise brake fittings are different as well, just mainly concerned about diff width etc.

hendrixhc reacted to Thom in Falcon xh ignition switch problems
James is on the money, temperamental starting is usually caused by a faulty or failing body control module, if you are really handy with a soldering iron you can repair them as it's usually a dry solder joint causing the problem, if you are lucky and you manage to find a similar module at the wreckers you can just replace it and hope it works or you can get a j3 chip for the ecu and bypass the immobiliser all together -

Not an expert on these but i seem to recall something about faulty smartlock module with dry joints or capacitor issue. Hit the dash cause a temporary making contact situation with allows it to start.
@Thom is a 4.ol expert and may be able to shed some light.

That wiring is about 1/2 as untidy as my XCs.
I have some sort of fault in there that when i put the indicators on the ignition system cuts out with each flash of the blinker. Something i have to fix still.

hendrixhc got a reaction from NZXD in Toploader shifter issues
I got rid of my toploader for this reason. Notchey to shift and all round just a pain in the arse.
I went with a built C4 and B&M Shifter, makes driving the car a whole lot more pleasurable.

You can use the sports dash out of the EA EB. direct plug in just need to change the oil pressure switch for a pressure sender.

hendrixhc got a reaction from bear351c in 302c fueling issue??
Im running a 750 holley on a warm 351 using a RP mechanical fuel pump and dont have any issues. I also run an ICE ignition sytem.
Only issue when i put my foot down is the fuel needle follows suit and drops very quickly.

Yeah sounds like the one Dean linked me, it's actually same area as me. Got zero dollars though. I considered the trade option but I'd like to know if it's legal in a mk1 and what the engineers costs /requirements would be
