SteveHobart got a reaction from deankxf in XF Diff Swap
Thanks mate. It's not a road car, it's for blasting around a track/doing hill climb events.
Engine has been modded, 10:1 compression, big cam, aftermarket ECU, soon to be running Turbo and E85.
The 2.7's create too much of a gap between the gears, for instance, on the back straight at the track you can rev out 3rd, put it in 4th and it only just comes on song when it's time to jump on the brakes.

SteveHobart got a reaction from Mixalis in XF EFI Crossflow Advance Curve
Hey All
I am looking for some help. I have a XF Crossflow EFI which I have built with:
Crow 14771 Cam
Zero Decked head- 10:1 compression
Lightened flywheel
And a few other small mechanical mods. It’s all run with a MS3X ECU.
Whilst I can get the fuel table pretty close, I am struggling a little with the advance curve on the dizzy. I have confirmed 8 degrees base advance via a timing light with the Spout disconnected.
Does anyone have, at least a stock advance curve that I can input into the ECU as a start. I have it booked in for a Dyno tune on the 1st of July (earliest booking) but really want to give it a crack before then!
Thanks in advance

Not really Bear. Not for more than a minute before doing this.
I’m trying to eliminate one thing at a time. Today is the bottom end. Just pulled one of the main caps and it still has bearing grease on it!
So I’m assuming it’s not a bottom end thing

Hey guys. Still chasing a gremlin in the XF 250 Crossflow. So it’ll turn over and run for a very little while (like seconds) then lock up.
At the moment I can rock it back and forth about 20mm on the Balancer with a breaker bar and that’s it. It’s not seized, but it’s definately stuck on something.
Engine was professionally rebuilt, so I’m thinking it’s something I did.
All I put on was the Flywheel, clutch, and pilot bearing. The rest was done by a pro. Engine is out at the moment, flywheel and clutch look ok. Mains and Conrod bearings look fine, no play in the rods or mains.
For reference. Engine was professionally rebuilt with:
- Aftermarket Cam
- New Valve Springs and timing gear
- 0 decked block
- everything professionally machined and reassembled.
I’m out of ideas....HELP!

Update to progress
So with Christmas, Holidays and all, I have managed a little bit of time on the old XF. I have managed to:
- install the 1/2 cage
- install the second (passenger) seat
- rebuilt the rear brakes
- installed a new rear handbrake cable (this was missing entirely)
- changed the rear trailing arm and Watts Link bushings for Nolethane (they were stuffed)
- changed the Swaybar links and bushings, am going to run the factory swaybar for now!
- removed the tow bar from the rear bumper (cut out the actual towbar)
- rewired the engine bay to a distribution block for positive and negative and;
- have just relocated the battery tray to the boot (where the spare wheel used to sit).
Am getting there!

SteveHobart got a reaction from Valvebouncer in Crossy build- am I on the right track
Oh, forgot to mention. My youngest and I went to the local racetrack for a bit of a look. There was a turbo RX7 on track and it was shooting 4 foot flames out of the exhaust. Anyway, my youngest loved it!
So the XF has sidepipes and I have worked out how to program the ECU to shoot flame, just because he likes it!
Funniest thing is, one of my day jobs at the moment is consulting for the Climate Change Office on Electric Vehicle transition for local council. Hypocrisy to the max!

Hey mate, thanks for chasing me up. Have been pretty busy on the XF (when I get time anyway).
Engines out and off to the rebuilders (only for the machining). The plan has altered slightly:
Zero decked block
Ported head
Crow 14770 Cam
Cylinders need to be bored out, so will be 40thou oversize as that’s what’s recommended
Balance job on the bottom end
Light weight flywheel
Have gone with the MS3x ECU with the datalogging function, will just be a bit of fun!
Have ordered some wiring stuff (the engine bay is a mess), new engine mounts and twin 12” thermos and a Davies Craig Thermo switch. Spent an afternoon cleaning the engine bay and am cleaning up and painting the extractors.
So all in all, it’s progressing! Should come in around $3k for everything and should put out some (decent) figures!
Thanks for the input!

So have given the mechanical a miss for something more body workish (not a word). Am colour coding the Bumpers and repainting the boot and adding a retro wing!

Hey guys! Well I’ve been a little busy with my other hobby (growing food) as winter is the time to get out in the garden and set everything up for spring.
However I have been able to spend a few hours each weekend on the XF and here’s where we are at.
Yup! Back where she belongs!
Am going to hook her all up and double check the wiring/sensors to make sure everything is sweet.
Can’t wait to fire it up. It’s getting closer!

Hey all! Just a bit of an update the engine is finished!!! Just waiting on the gearbox to be finished so I can put it all in as an assembly. In the mean time I have:
- Ordered a Bolt In 1/2 roll cage
- fitted some racing seats
- ordered 2 x racing harnesses
- finished wiring the Megasquirt unit
- Fitted the O2 sensor to the extractors
- Fitted the Air Temp Sensor to the Plenum chamber
This weekend I spent a bit of time reducing weight in the old XF. Basically cutting away the tow bar and some of the surplus steel under the rear bar in particular!
So progress is being made!!!
