CHESTNUTXE 7,335 Posted January 16, 2016 What are the good aftermarket balancers and is there any difference between iron and alloy headed engines, also 3 and 4 bolt balancers.
SPArKy_Dave 8,892 Posted January 16, 2016 4 bolt balancers, take the extra pulley for power steering, from memory. The 3 bolt are the earlier ones. Look at NULINE powerbond ones to start. They have a couple of different grades available.
ESPSIX 143 Posted January 16, 2016 Power steering is 3 bolt.
winton 399 Posted January 16, 2016 Ps was on both 3 and 4 bolt.3 bolt is the early cast pulley and 4 bolt is the later pressed steel pulley 2 ando76 and slydog reacted to this
slydog 7,873 Posted January 16, 2016 This ^^^...as for a good balancer. Yes the Powerbond units are good in SFI spec for performance use however if going to extremes Ross,Atomic or ATI are the only 1's to use and you pay accordingly.
CHESTNUTXE 7,335 Posted January 17, 2016 ok i have read somewhere the xf has a 4 bolt balancer.
slydog 7,873 Posted January 17, 2016 Yes because Xf comes after Xe...early 3 bolt late 4 bolt as Winton has stated. 1 Gaz reacted to this
FORD_MAN 1,026 Posted January 17, 2016 Yep XE & backwards is 3 bolt, XF's where 4 bolt, Is the powerbond street, PB1021ST now a twin groove balancer? I though they where only single groove & wouldn't suit with A/C Hmm. 1 slydog reacted to this
slydog 7,873 Posted January 17, 2016 Well back in the day the later 4 bolts were a twin with a the holes for the steel pully to run AC. But as for now I don't know. Havn't worked there in over 10 years and things change. So doe's my memory LOL 1 FORD_MAN reacted to this
CHESTNUTXE 7,335 Posted January 17, 2016 On a worked crossy would a 3 bolt powerbond be ok on my engine,or should i step up to a 4 bolt ,but will i have to change crank ? or is there an adapter to fit my xe crank.
Gaz 1,085 Posted January 17, 2016 Late XE was the first 4 bolt. Same change date as going to saginaw from CII. Step up to the 4 bolt balancer, they go straight on and the p/s pulley is less of an ass-fuck than the 3 bolt cast version.
CHESTNUTXE 7,335 Posted January 17, 2016 ok cheer's,another thing i noticed on ando's motors is that the water pump pulley is bigger ,is that just a clevo one or something else.
ando76 4,354 Posted January 17, 2016 Yep clevo one or precrossflow 250 one. Rob got one at a reasonable price from a GT shop.
CHESTNUTXE 7,335 Posted January 17, 2016 ok so it turns the pump slower at a higher RPM,my set up on the crossy is a double belt on the air con water pump and crank ,is it ok just to run 1 belt or better to find the matching 1 belt alternator pulley and crank pulley,as this motor wont have the a/c connected back up as i plan to only run the track. ando76 4,354 Posted January 17, 2016 Yeah I'd look for a bigger alternator pulley as well. Slow everything down if u are going to rev it. On the burnout car I had a dual pulley balancer. I ran a single belt to the water pump and then I made a low mount alternator bracket. That gave it plenty of belt rap and stopped it from coming off.
LJDB 103 Posted January 17, 2016 There is a couple different water pump pulley bolt hole patterns too. i think it depends if its got a clutch fan of not, maybe early and late types. the one on the right is a twin pulley non clutch fan type.
CHESTNUTXE 7,335 Posted January 17, 2016 yeah mine atm has a clutch fan
LJDB 103 Posted January 17, 2016 I just fitted and even larger single v pulley to my car as it was getting alittle hot on the freeway. Not sure what its off but it looks like a factory unit. i also fitted a idler pulley between the crank and alternator pulleys to stop the belt flex because it kept throwing belt. Havent lost one since. You can kind of see it in the pic
ando76 4,354 Posted January 17, 2016 Yeah should have added that I use xc water pumps. Small spigot to suit the big pulley.
CHESTNUTXE 7,335 Posted January 17, 2016 ok good info i can get my hands on a number of pulleys tomorrow i will have a look to see what suits ,so it looks like i need a xc waterpump ,a clevo or sometype of larger pulley, and a larger alternator pulley, and a 4 bolt powerbond balancer,so this 4 bolt balancer will bolt on to my early xe motor ? pretty sure its a 3 bolt ATM ? ando76 4,354 Posted January 17, 2016 Yep. all the cranks are the same in the snout. well some are worn more than others - but you get my drift.
CHESTNUTXE 7,335 Posted January 17, 2016 yep sure,im going to look at some pulleys this morning and i will take note of the small snout water pump .
CHESTNUTXE 7,335 Posted January 18, 2016 ok so here is 1 small and 1 big w-pump pulley ,and i think the one on the end is a xd power steering pulley or 3rd member
Crazy2287 1,886 Posted January 18, 2016 Is this the powerbond unit ya'll referring to? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/POWERBOND-PB1021ST-31-71mm-/321509646069?hash=item4adb77def5:g:yC8AAOSwnDZUBdFO
