Trying to identify a M86 ute diff as an LSD or Open Diff

Recommended Posts

I got offered to buy a Xr6 turbo ute diff to buy. I pulled the rear cover off of it to see weather it was a LSD or not

All i see are spider gears ?

i am not sure on a 100% way to check wether its an lsd lol

I turned one axle and the opposite axle turned the OPPOSITE way ?

what is a sure way to know?

I know it is the m86 ect . but i want an LSD

It's a Open diff. LSD is a sealed hemisphere

Are you sure, you have opened one of these up yourself?

I have some more photos from Chaise 'ILIED' , of his LSD center, it looks like the one above

On the older borgie lsd they had 2 rings of bolts on the hemisphere: inner ring for the two halves and the outer for the crownwheel. Open centres use the crown wheel bolts to hold the halves together

I thought all XR6Ts got LSD?

And I wouldn't trust the "spin same way its LSD". My G6E spins both the same way but it's open, if you hold one wheel the other will still spin.

My ute has a (stuffed) LSD, both wheels spin the same way but it no longer puts power to the wheel that has more resistance.

Yes very interesting..... FG diffs are 1550 mm flange to flange and BAs are 1500. Means you could cure that age-old Falcon trait of the rear wheels sitting in too far by fitting an FG diff and not have to run wideys on the back.

Or do the opposite in a FG with a ba diff , which is what id do with a fg ute lol

The smartass answer is install it and pull a burnout

My answe is to look for the tag for lsd oil

Yeah I know probably as useful and locking the screen door on the submarine to keep the water out

Ill be testing , test number 1 , in the near future lol

they are really weird. my friend brian came with me to double check the diff last night

ends up it acts as a pegger normally , UNTIL its under LOAD

then its like a lsd

ill get more pics .. as i am still sorta curious on how it works myself
