NZXD 2,328 Posted October 22, 2014 Afternoon (nz time), I have two E series drive shafts that I can use in my XD. One is steel from an EF, and the second is alloy from a EB Fairmont Ghia V8. There are so many arguments on the net as to which one is the best, regarding strength and then the speed limits. I have a drive shaft loop fitted just to be sure. Any pointers or recommendations? SLO247 1,713 Posted October 22, 2014 Plan on going over 180?
NZXD 2,328 Posted October 22, 2014 With my gearing, I'd be close to 6000 revs at 200kmh. It would only be on a track if I did, plus a dropped XD with factory brakes and high speed don't really mix on the road.
Thom 6,654 Posted October 22, 2014 I prefer the steel shaft, know of a couple of ally ones that broke behind manuals and one in a car with an auto and high stall, I broke an ally one doing a roll back in a paddock bomb 2 XTREME KARTS XF and Stevemack reacted to this
SLO247 1,713 Posted October 23, 2014 Sounds like steel is the go for a street car.
NZXD 2,328 Posted October 23, 2014 Steel seems the right choice. Cheers

revhead 1,392 Posted October 23, 2014 alloy is fine ,its designed for lightness and strength, steel is out dated and heavy ,unless your running over 500rwhp ,she will be fine
RAWDEAL 222 Posted October 26, 2014 I had alloy ones and they never broke even with it wearing off in a few spots from bottoming out.. A cro mo one wouldnt be that expensive to get made if you are worried?
Jonathan Mark Davidson 169 Posted October 26, 2014 i've got an alloy on in the xd and never had an issue even with a few big burnouts and hi speed runs 1 revhead reacted to this
