Menice 331 Posted July 10, 2014 Need a little help i dont know any engine builders that work with the eb-au 4ltr motors and i've just got an eb with an el motor going in and also picked up a head and cam combo to throw on. Does anyone know of someone who can assemble and run in the cam on the brisbane south side i may travel to the gold coast or north side if they've got really good reviews, also wondering how much something like this is gonna cost me? slydog 7,873 Posted July 10, 2014 There is no run procedure as it's a roller cam...as for general mechanics in Brisbane I don't know but it's not that hard a job THB just time consuming.
ando76 4,354 Posted July 10, 2014 Cam at Engine Engineering - guru - enough said. they are on the south side. google them.
wagoon 2,429 Posted July 10, 2014 +1 on Cam at Engine Engineering. He did my roller cam crossflow including porting head and setup the head. Great guy.
Menice 331 Posted July 10, 2014 Ah didn't know that sly, but I've heard the hardest part is actually dialling the cam in which I don't have the tools or knowledge to do, I'll keep it to the professionals for now. Awesome thanks guys I'll contact him tomorrow.
Menice 331 Posted July 10, 2014 Gave engine engineering a call and was told they don't do assembly just machine work, they recommended mechanics 2 u for what I need just waiting for a call back with a quote from them

Easy to do bro...inlet and exhaust on number 6cyl both rocking open, balancer @ TDC cam timing mark lining up with cyl head rail where rocker cover sits and cam timing is done.Zip lock the cam gear to the chain then start removal and installation process. One thing to check with these engine when adding bigger camshafts is piston to valve clearance.Mild cams are OK but big units under BIG RPM the valves will touch the pistons from time to time. 2 Menice and Clevo120Y reacted to this
Menice 331 Posted July 10, 2014 This is the cam and it came with a vernier gear so I need to change it over as well, seems easy enough to do otherwise
gerg 10,871 Posted July 11, 2014 That's a pretty mild cam by the looks of it, lift seems to be the only major difference from a stock one. Kind of like a towing cam, should be a good streeter with a decent exhaust. Just don't expect it to be a screamer that's all
Menice 331 Posted July 11, 2014 Yeah its not over the top, I may try a bigger one down the track
dizzy616 183 Posted July 11, 2014 some cams the rocker gear may need a shim. or different springs. so research the cam before you install.

He does the assembly work in his own time but is sounds like your on it. Plus one on checking to see if a shim is needed with the cam. 2 adrianphu123 and Menice reacted to this
Menice 331 Posted July 11, 2014 Ah ok ill call again Monday and ask for him. The valves and springs are already installed I found out this arvo, just the cam, the gear and rockers need to go on. Got a mate who can do it but doesn't wanna mess with the adjustable vernier lol
nos2 751 Posted July 11, 2014 Give it a crack yourself mate, it's really not that hard. Have a look on fordmods for a cam swap doco. Set the vernier 0, your tuner will adjust that 2 TF_250 and Menice reacted to this
ando76 4,354 Posted July 11, 2014 If the springs are already set up in the head I would just have a go yourself as Nos2 has said. Research and then have a crack. The hardest part and most complex and specialist tool requiring bit is done if the springs are installed. The rest can be accomplished with basic hand tools. 1 nos2 reacted to this
Menice 331 Posted July 12, 2014 Yeah a may do that now that I know that their partly together already, with the help of a mate. Any ideas for power she'll make with that cam, bigger valves, ported and decked 10thou? The guy reckons it was designed for 250-
slydog 7,873 Posted July 12, 2014 Get a Metric 14mm single HEX impact socket to remove the head bolts and get "new" ones to replace em with as they are torque to yield and a throw away item after 1 use. 2 nos2 and Thom reacted to this
nos2 751 Posted July 12, 2014 Once you've finished, post skid vids. 3 slydog, Menice and dougie77 reacted to this
Menice 331 Posted July 12, 2014 That would be illegal lol the engine is almost in have one more thing to get, then to wait for my head to show up, if I get bored waiting I might drive the 4hrs and get it lol
Thom 6,654 Posted July 12, 2014 Make sure you torque and loc-tite the bolts on the vernier cam gear even if you don't move it from it's original position
FORD_MAN 1,026 Posted July 12, 2014 I have the same 549 grind cam for my AU sitting in my room, I'll get around to fitting it one day. can't wait to hear how yours goes.
Menice 331 Posted July 12, 2014 I was looking earlier at the crowcam website and the 549 for the au seems the same except total lift and rpm range, I'm still learning cams but would there be a noticeable difference in them?
FORD_MAN 1,026 Posted July 12, 2014 only just saw power range differance listed, but would be close to e series. lift differance is e series have 2:1 rocker ratio & AU is 1.8:1, the rest not sure
Menice 331 Posted July 27, 2014 Still trying to find someone to do it, had a few quotes to install the head at a around $1000 up to $1500 not sure if this about right. My general mechanical guy doesn't feel comfortable doing it at this stage I'm a little busy with a few other things to deal with it myself atm so I'm gonna give it to a shop
