nos2 got a reaction from Gmskippy in Dynamat extreme
I used dynamat xtreme in my old Ford courier, it did cut out a lot of noise. If I were to do it again I would put under felt on top..
This is the stuff I used it's thin but does work. When installing it I used a small wooden roller from the craft shop but a screwdriver handle works also.

nos2 reacted to gerg in Are all 6cyl t5's the same?
T5s have a steep helical cut into the gear teeth to make them quieter but this increases end thrust, putting a lot of stress on the thrust races and radially on gears and shafts too.
There are gearsets available that are made with less or no helical and can reportedly handle 500ft-lb but are expensive and the straight-cut ones are noisy. Imagine a reverse gear whine in every gear.

Xflow - 345hp @ 6100 333ftlb @ 4700
FG - 355hp @ 6050 342ftlb @ 4500
same dyno, same fuel brand, same manifold, same exhaust, same tuner, 3 years apart!!
So thats a stock FG DOHC head port, chamber, valve angles etc which is different to BA DOHC also we love vct saw one simple change at 5000 to the exhaust cam and gained 20hp!!! the cams have 60 degrees of movement and we are using all of that through the rev range.
Should be back out racing in the next few weeks if all goes well.

Well the strip out of the old beacon has begun tell you what it didn't want to come out as the car was pretty fucking bent
We had to take the gearbox and the bell off cause the car was squashed around them but all seams to be ok. Tomorrow the teardown of the new one starts with any luck should be running by tomorrow night

Sounds like a fun build. Im going to come at it backwards though. You are going to need to pick your gearbox and find a clutch to suit that much torque. The tko600 is a very nice box but the 600 indicates safe torque handling capability. You can put more torque through it no worries but you are then starting to run beyond its safe working range. Yes you can upgrade the box to handle more just like a t56, but the upgrade will be on top of the price of the box and the clutch will be around the price of the box if you want something street friendly ie not a race clutch. Dont get me wrong I love manuals, I wouldnt build a car without it being a manual. But I have actually shelved projects because I couldnt justify spending 4-5 grand on a box and clutch setup. Which if you want a reliable manual thats fun to drive with this much torque is what your going to have to spend.
What sort of events do you want to do with your car?

Because i can and want too, it'll see the track and other events when ever i get the chance but It'll primarily be a fun toy. Its a Hobby and i could find a million other things to spend my money on but i enjoy cars, i know i'll lose money on it but thats not what its about. i'm not a fan of new cars to many problems, can never do things to em as simply as older cars to many technologies get in the road lol
