Ando81 2,950 Posted June 28, 2015 Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help me with my xf ute bonnet. It sits slightly higher than the mudguards which isn't much of an issue but the worst part is that once I get up to highway speed, it seems to slightly lift up and drop down on its own giving the appearance of it going to come up over the windscreen. Is there a way that I can adjust the bonnet catch to hold it down firmer.
SLO247 1,713 Posted June 28, 2015 The catch can be moved up and down on its bracket from memory. Look at it from the front through the radiator support. 2 bear351c and Ando81 reacted to this
Ando81 2,950 Posted June 28, 2015 Cheers mate, I knew there had to be something like that. Will sort it out after work tomorrow and share the results. Thank you
blu xe 825 Posted June 29, 2015 Set the stoppers so that the bonnet is sitting flush with the guards without the catch. Once you've got that sorted put the catch back on and set it with just a touch of pre load on it. Too much and it'll be a bitch to open and you'll have to slam it shut. Too little and your bonnet will continue bouncing at speed. It also pops open easier with a bit of load on it. 3 SLO247, wagoon and Outback Jack reacted to this
Ando81 2,950 Posted June 29, 2015 Thanks for the help fellas. I need the ute as a daily and wasn't confident adjusting the catch until the weekend. I have slightly raised the bonnet stops to see if that helps and if so then I will adjust the catch on the weekend. 1 Outback Jack reacted to this
Ando81 2,950 Posted July 9, 2015 So I found the problem last night, the bolts on the under side of the radiator support panel had rattled loose which let the bonnet catch lift up and down on its own.

Mr Polson 10,214 Posted July 9, 2015 Love how Ford was like "shit, AC radiator/condenser doesn't fit because of the bonnet catch. Oh just bash it down where it fouls, she'll be right" 2 XTREME KARTS XF and Outback Jack reacted to this
Ando81 2,950 Posted July 9, 2015 Ha ha, I reckon I have seen some of them with a cutout for the bonnet catch. I thought this might have been thrown in by a rough panel beater at some stage. Or is it the norm on other xf's? 1 XTREME KARTS XF reacted to this
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted July 9, 2015 Normal on all the ones I've seen/wrecked/had.

Mr Polson 10,214 Posted July 9, 2015 Money saving I reckon. Rather than go and retool the machine that made them or have someone cut it square, just get the person fitting it to whack it with a hammer.
Ando81 2,950 Posted July 9, 2015 Yeah I guess so, the new aftermarket ones on eBay are improved and actually have that section cut away to allow for access to the bolts.
