Free.51 2,803 Posted May 7, 2015 Hi all i noticed the other day that when i have either the left or right indicator on when im at the lights with the brake on the indicator clicks really quickly & the light also blinks really quick but it doesnt do it if my foot isnt on the brake. My first thought was maybe it needs a new flasher anybody else had this issue? This is the Zl btw.
VDO 124 Posted May 7, 2015 You probably have poor grounding to the brake lights. When the brake lights come on, they need to steal some ground from the light assembly and it's not enough to serve them all at once, so one or more of your indicators will die, causing the others to flash faster due to the reduced load on the flasher relay. Get into your tail light assebmlies and clean up all the ground connections in the lamp holders and particularly the ground wires going to the car body. Remove and clean the bulbs too (the metal parts). 3 bear351c, Outback Jack and XTREME KARTS XF reacted to this

Banno 480 Posted May 7, 2015 Sorry hi-jack thread but what causes volt meter to flick with brake or indicator when applied? And how to fix problem
gerg 10,872 Posted May 7, 2015 Voltage drop in dashboard supply? It's certainly an XD-XE thing. 1 bear351c reacted to this
Banno 480 Posted May 7, 2015 Voltage drop in dashboard supply? It's certainly an XD-XE thing. Thanks Gerg I always thought it was to do with ground but didn't know what or where from. Wonder what causes the voltage drop then? Wiring? Dash? Resistance? Cheers
bear351c 10,337 Posted May 8, 2015 Every XD/FC I've owned has done this. I just accepted it. Besides its good to flash the brake lights at tailgaters, by watching the Volt gauge.
XTREME KARTS XF 1,212 Posted May 8, 2015 I had the same issue with my XD when i bought it. Incorrect globes will also do it! Mine at different wattage globes in each corner.
VDO 124 Posted May 9, 2015 Gauge dropping on braking is also a poor ground issue. The ground for the cluster connects to the body, behind the drivers kick panel. Remove, clean, replace. Better still run an additional ground to the dash from the metal behind the dash to the black wire on the instrument cluster plug. 2 Outback Jack and gerg reacted to this

Crebe 16 Posted September 3 I know this sounds obviose but check a bulb is not blown. With less load on the flasher unit it works faster. Also if you have added led bulbs tbey can do the same thing depending on what sort was put in.
