PapouGhia got a reaction from Outback Jack in Xf Efi problems
Alright when I first got the car it would idle fine but then it started stuffing up and I unplugged the isc plug and it would idle fine once warm. Afm isn’t the problem as it’s plugged in now and it’s fine, cheers for the help guys, what oil thickness should I put in? There is still a lil ticking sound but I reckon that’s the cam. I’m looking for a isc and the hose that goes from it to manifold. Cheers all

Just put the rocker and the manifold back on, they all looked fine so hopefully when I start car it’ll build the pressure up.

You explained that perfect and I have thought that as well, just making sure I have gone through YouTube as well and Sussed it all out, just wanted to get some feedback from people who actually worked and know the ins and outs of these motors, I’ll try and get it all back together tonight, how long should I crank the engine by hand? Will they all harden up if I do it? Cheers

Yea mate I know the Bosch ones, but wanting them in a red colour way, no brand does it expect eagle, just wanting to tidy everything up as my engine bay looks very crap, and all old components, ahaha today I cleaned out both washer bottles! Took abit though. Little things count for me at the moment!

    Update for all you.
Rocker went back on with all lifter rockers and pushrods torqued all installed,
i picked up a silver xf efi complete,
Everything efi out of it and used the bits I needed to tidy up mine and have spares,
swapped the isc unit and the maf airbox over and few of the vaccine hoses,
also swapped tailshafts as mine was a huge round one on the end I’m pretty sure it’s out of el? For the one without the big dome around it hard to explain.
At the start up it wasn’t running right, with all the new stuff until about 5 minutes in when it tuned itself I reckon and it’s amazing!! No stalling no leaks, there is still a slight ticking which is fare as the live may be worn. I’m going to put thicker oil aswell.
mths car is running no tailpipe at the moment as the tailpipe I have is the stock and my extractors back is 2.5inch so it’s loud...
    next.
Clean up the wiring. Am I able to connect the wires all together so I don’t have that many on the terminal? And tips on cleaning it up?
once I’m happy with it and everything is up to my standards and running as good as a daily it’ll go in for the rust in the boot seal and the bit in the rear mud guard cut out and respray, anyone recommend someone for the job, not looking for a show car finish just a going over as a neat car.
Cheers everyone who helped appreciate it and there will be more to come!

No need for fuel additive as it's alloy head which come with hardened valve seats. Plus the heads are cast by Honda - who were using unleaded fuel long before Ford Aus.

I run Penrite Classic Light in mine - a 20W-60 specially designed for use in infrequently driven cars. If yours is a daily driver I'd go Penrite HPR30 (still 20W-60).

Both my xflows run Champion plugs. One has Repco plug leads (made by Bosch) and the other has Champion leads.

Glad you got her running good mate. As for rust repair, check out the repairs Rod “2redrovers” has been doing on this forum. Thread title is “my cars and whatever’s in the shop” or something like that. Outstanding quality of work, not just a cheap patch up job that’s for sure

Yeah, without the Ford logo obviously. If I remember tomorrow at work I'll see if they're still avaliable. Weren't cheap though.
Yeah it's basically a choke for cold starts, also bumps the idle up when A/C is on, and ensures the engine stays running under decellaration.

You wont find an ISC, nobody makes them. Can pull yours to bits, and clean it, and try and put it back together, or get a second hand one.
Try and find a wrecked ZL Fairlane with EFI, same engine.....

near the brake booster, it's a green one, push the sides in to unclip it(it says it on it, people like Me always tried to pry the clips, but pushing them releases it easy)

Socket and bar on the crankshaft.  Bottom pulley, between rad and engine, inside will be a bolt. Turn clockwise, towards passenger seat when standing in front of the car. May work the opposite direction, but, bolt might come undone.

i remember soaking my lifters in a icecream container of oil overnight, i did see them bubble for a short while, but i doubt they did much..
they should self bleed within a very short time.
Chris is correct regarding running with the rocker cover off.. the dipstick has a seal on it and needs to be pushed down to seal.. they can be very sensitive but they seem to work well when everything is working right

Thats exactly the direction i was going with the question ,
have heard of pushrods being bent trying to fight against valve spring tension .
Ive always done rockers up by winding over to get the cam lobe away from the lifter on each available cylinder

That front one was the pain of them all. The back ones alright as you can still see through the larger whole! The front one is pitch black and you have to guide it very gently then try and use the shitty lifter pullers which would slip off to get it halfway in then I got a socket extension to lightly tap the of the way in but when it was in it had great movement up and down! Finally getting somewhere now! Just going to make sure when I go back out that they are all seated prepped let them I go to torquing them down. Someone said it was 33nm on the rocker bolts I’m pretty sure correct me if I’m wrong! I’ll keep you all posted!

Far out after a long time got them all in with the head in!! Pretty happy some of the new ones went in fine some of the other ones where fuckin tight and had to push and twist... hit but there finally in Ye wow, I cut a piece of coat hanger straight and had the magnet guide it into spot then push coat hanger down so it will keep the lifter in place then got the lifter puller and attached it trough the top and clamped it on was a massive headache but pretty happy that I got it done by myself! Cheers all for the help! Next step bolting everything up! And on my last lifter to put in... the puller broke just in time that it was all finished though. That’ll be the next step! Have a pic of what I looked like in the engine bay on imgur https://imgur.com/gallery/a0p3M
