    • I was wondering if anyone knows how much better the crossflow head is compared to the 250 2V head on the pre xflow 250.   I would like to figure out how much info can be used on the pre xflow to produce comparable results to a decent xflow.   I would guess maybe 15% difference between the iron head XC and XA-XB 2V heads.   I know the 2V wouldnt compete with later XE-XF heads.   Do the 2V engines respond the same with similar cam profiles as the crossflow does?   My 2V engine currently has a 214 cam in it and I'm wondering how much bigger I can go in the cam with the older head.
    • Yeah, thats the casting number. Just used by the foundry. The engine number is between the dizzy and fuel pump, should be 10 or so hand stamped numbers JG34123456K or something. Matching numbers from the factory are the same on the block, the passenger side shock tower and the VIN tags. Doesn't matter if they don't, as long as the Rego dept has the recorded numbers on their computer. Most peeps don't bother to notify them when they swap engines out. 
    • That should be a D not J. D - 1970 2 - second year of that decade so 1972 A - Full size Ford E - Engine Plant or Division   CA - not sure exactly but could be certain revision.     4 - 1974 0 - month? 15 - day
    • engine number?  for rego purpose is on the front left side under the head(behind power steering pump on the block, )    those casting numbers are something @CHESTNUTXE usually has a fair amount of knowledge of. 
    • Hey Everyone,   I'm about to put my XE onto the Qld SIV register and am gathering all the info needed.  I pulled the starter motor to get to the engine number but I can't seem to find anything that breakes down the code for me.

      I'm reading the code as:   J(upside down???)2AE-CA 4015   Anyone have a clue??   Cheers
    • Yeah, 90% of Australian cars/Effies had 2V heads. As you can see by the pics from Dean, the amount of material at the top and bottom of the intake port is the same on a 4V, twice as wide on the top of the 2V port.    7J6 is the date it was  cast in the foundry, Approx 7th Sept 1976? I think....What are you looking to do with the heads??  302 closed chamber on a 351 block? Stockie rebuild on a 302?  
    • Well with one problem down another pops up, I can't find the bloody inspection cover on this thing. Ill try rattling out the bolts and see if its just splined together but Im completely stumped about how to get at the converter bolts.
    • Well I have finally returned to this now that I need a car for a mate, I got my hands on another xr6 that had been in a wreck for $1000 and am pulling the engine out of it today (if anyone needs fg parts hit me up). The plan is to do the swap for now and then rebuild the original engine to turbo spec and make an xr6 turbo out of it. Ill keep you posted but so far so good! Its not just safe, its 40% safe!
    • the port size is massive on the 4V, i don't know the dimensions, but it's fairly easy to tell looking at them.    there's a photo in post 3 of the thread below , might have more info in it if you have time to read it?

       
    • Gidday everyone, I’m hoping someone can help ID the heads I have on my clevo? Quietly confident they’ll be 2V heads looking at port size but I’m no mechanic. They don’t have the dot 2 or dot 4 stamps in the corner that I’ve seen in some articles/YouTube vids. I’ve found the following numbers stamped on them if this helps: ARD0AE and 60908 cast on the outside of the head on the manifold and then 7J6 cast on the inside with a large 1 stamped on the inside. Hopefully this helps otherwise I’ll add some photos when I get them back. Reason I’m wanting to ID them is I’m looking at a new intake manifold and want to ensure it’ll work well. thanks in advance Glen
