i want to build a engine run stand but dont like the price of a ready built one,i guess start building a hd frame on wheels then weld in some supports with a set of v8 chassis mounts and dummy fit the block with a bellhousing and weld a support bracket for the bell.

I built a cradle (not a run stand) that could be easily turned into a runner, out of bits of unistrut and brackets. Very minimal welding, mostly nuts and bolts. Maybe you could go to a scrap yard and find some of that stuff?

new crate 430hp 475ft/lb 7.3 Godzilla is $7000 USD, then plus taxes & freight, there is at least 2 companies importing them to Aus,

My Bro uses a knife sharping stone at work for cleaning up block & head surfaces. BEAR/Norton KS100 large Silicon carbide combo stone, has coarse & fine side, I use same for knifes.

Rod shop mounts look good, I have their trans mount in my black ute,

Cam range is based on 351 so 1500/4500 would be more like 1000-4000ish on 400M, like my 302C cam is rated as up to 5000 but pulls to 5500,

Crow cams have a few of lower lift (under .550") hyd rollers up to 226/230@50. also one at 552/553 which should work with std rockers

I always thought around 500 lift was max for std rockers but if i could go a bit bigger all good

What cam are you running on your 302? I like the low-mid torque on mine but every now and then I wish I had something more. I only want to upgrade if the trade-off for driveability and fuel economy is minimal or none. My current one is a Crow 21602 l, has 208/208 @50, 484 lift on a 110 LSA.

Looking at the catalog of Comp rollers, they seem to have at the lower end, specs of around the low 220s and mid-500s lift. Sort of around what the old E303 motorsport cams were for 302Ws back when there wasn't much else, but perhaps with a tighter LSA than what they had.

If I was ever going to swap the cam again (I've wiped 2 already) I'd want to stretch my budget to a roller setup. Have you noticed a serious drop in low end torque and fuel economy when going up in cam by that much?

@gerg mine is next up 21603, 214/214 510/510 110, Umm fuel economy is hard to say as ute runs 4.11 diff. but did once have 17.8lt/100km, normally like 23lt/100km, also with 4.11's & 2800 stall bottom end torque isn't an issue. :D. but did notice big pick up in low end when changed from AFD hi rise back to dual plane. As to larger cam & bottom end my XF ute has 237@50 cam & bottom end is just like a stock crossflow till revs raise into cams power range & off it goes, still stock convertor & did drive with 2.92 diff for a while.

I'll be looking at hyd roller for my XE S-pak utes 302c, tho it might just stretch to 393.

Cheers mate, 17.8 is not much better than what mine is doing at the moment. I dunno why, but clevos just seem to like a drink.

Looks like Summit is the go for that kind of gear, but their price is deceptive as the spider kit and bronze dizzy gear are extra which should really be all bundled together.

Bros ZH 302c, 350 Holley, 3.0 9", got 15.3lt/100km with slipping almost dead C4 auto (with no 2nd gear),

Dissy gear depends on what core is used Comp -8 cams are cast core which can use composite & maybe steel (I need to research them a bit) as where -9 is steel billet that needs bronze which wear over time, or Comp & Crow sell melonized/melonite gears which can be used on different cores cast flat tappet, hyd roller & 1050 soild roller & don't wear out.

Crow MG6 (.531") MG11 (.491") $99ea

my other 400 block is due on friday, its a 351m block but like its smaller brother, its the same block and even rods,so ya just need a 400 crank and pistons and ya set to go,being a 351m block it will be a 1975 or later casting cause they didnt come out until 1975,im hoping its a 78 or 79 casting but not fussed as its gunna be a dead stock rebuild,i have all parts lined up ready to go once olm8 tanks it and bore 040 with the silverlite pistons i got in the kit from the usa,its been a dam hard run of months on end trying to locate a block within driving distance ,when i fluked the d1ae high nickel block that was only a under 2 hrs drv,i also made freinds with a dude who imports a container every 3 months and stuffs it full of crap,he said its very easy to grab these 351m/400 in the scrap yards complete and put in the container,im pretty sure he is a f truck guy i havent met him yet but he is dropping off my block this week, and even got it cheaper $350 std bore, cause i have been out of work since covid hit,im thinking of just going in a bit deeper in 400 and other gear from usa,and try and make something of it cause no one is really specilizing in 400s,and maybe some other 460 stuff from late model trucks .

i don't understand what you mean here.

is it a 351M (what's that mean? 351 clevo?) but a taller block that fits 400 crank and rods?

does it have 351 crank and rods and massive (tall)pistons currently?

yes 351m is the same block as a 400 just uses a 351 windsor style crank but uses same rods as a 400 but a taller piston
I took a gamble on a nice block off for the front of the manifold and nope its too big 1" so later gunna try a 3/4 997f94f3ee6ecd9b3c0d392e9889deb2.jpg

The 351m block is here and its in ok cond perfect for re co std bore and gerg will like this one its a CF casting cleveland foundry i have never had one of these before,by the cast date which is hard to read i think its a 1980 but its definitely out of a f truck by the engine number and rear pick up bolt on mains i will take it to olm8 on monday if lockdown is over 4pm sunday and get him to do his trick on it.8b31ab73dd4dee74a954a8ac93bafc1a.jpg87819e5c87dd4d81538cf89fa1e0e883.jpgf1da6a829f9f25d2c6a6c34b172ad1ee.jpg112d5dee219c765e143eb4d6092672fb.jpg9b17aefc780ab1d432a3933f366ee4a7.jpg

Would be nice if you could source a crank for it to make it a proper engine... Maybe a Windsor stroker would work?
