Paul F 3 Posted August 11, 2020 Thanks for the help guys. My xe wagon is a 1984 model so apparently I need a engineer's report as they stopped v8 Cleveland's in 1982 or 83. The only bonus is it's a matching numbers 6cyl, 4spd s pack wagon with books.

I should probably keep it original anyway. 1 deankxf reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted August 11, 2020 Yeah I agree. A stout 250 is no slouch, especially in a light body like the XD-XF. A V8 sounds good but dulls the handling a bit.Sent from my CPH1920 using Tapatalk 1 deankxf reacted to this

CHESTNUTXE 7,318 Posted August 13, 2020 i cant belive i havent been lit up in the xf 400 v8 ute with 2 bonnett scoops and loud twin exhaust and given the 3rd degree about the engine swap even tho i have the engine mod plate, its still bait around here, but even when the crossy was in there with air filter coming out of bonnet no interest either ,i guess when cops in your local area get to know your car and your not hooning they loose interest until the LSD cuts loose 1 1 gerg and deankxf reacted to this
HotRod 2 Posted December 19, 2020 Hey, anyone know what the maybe "D" and "o" mean at the end of my 351c cast number? D2AE-CADO??
FORD_MAN 1,026 Posted December 19, 2020 Between the CA & O is a blade screw head that holds the plate into the casting mound, don't really mean anything most australian clevelands had have it, the 8K3 is the casting date, 1978 Oct 3 https://www.fordification.com/tech/datecodes.htm 1 gerg reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted December 19, 2020 Yeah good spotting there@FORD_MAN , the "D" is just the screw head like there is at the other end and the "0" is just a phantom marking that doesn't correlate to anything except maybe denoting that it's an Aussie casting using a US mould? The OP hasn't specified foundry marks (early ones still had Cf despite being cast at Geelong) but that's not relevant except for the fact that Aussie iron is heaps harder. The only relevant numbers here are for the D2AE CA bit:D2 = 1972 designA= full-size passenger carE = engineeringCA = Cleveland typeAnd engine number will tell you what it came out of locally (matches chassis number)Sent from my CPH1920 using Tapatalk
HotRod 2 Posted December 19, 2020 Ok cool. So being a black block its cast in Oz with the better steel and not cast in the us? Sorry , confused. Are the d2ae blocks from the us? And they are cast differently with a small dizzy hole and longer block? Thanks for your help with the screw (haha) and phantom o....

And they are cast differently with a small dizzy hole and longer block? Thanks for your help with the screw (haha) and phantom o.... The D2AE-CA marking just means it's a Cleveland, whether it not it's cast here or in the States. Pretty much after 1974, they were cast here. Are you sure it's a black block? What's the date code on the casting? That will be a separate number made up of 4 digits. First one is year, second is month (letter), 3rd and 4th are day of the month. So it should read 8E27 if it was a 27 May, 1978 casting. Sent from my CPH1920 using Tapatalk
bear351c 10,271 Posted December 21, 2020 Measure the dizzy shaft hole. Or the shaft measurement under the gear on the dizzy shaft.
bear351c 10,271 Posted December 21, 2020 Blue blocks had a larger shaft, (I think). Round about 0'500". Reckon the black blocks were about 0.480" thou.
HotRod 2 Posted December 21, 2020 Is definitely the smaller one. Couldn't find one to fit so mechined it to work.. could almost sand it down haha..
