XF0747 69 Posted December 6, 2015 ey all have been having dramas lately with the xf and the power steering belt it would always spin the belt of after a big rev now i think i have finally fixed the issue got another bracket, strengthened it, put a reco pump on it and a new belt to me this looks pretty inline with the crank here is a pic of the power steering all lined up if its out by a little would like to hear ppls tips on how to get it spot on cheers
slydog 7,873 Posted December 6, 2015 Yes it needs to be inline for sure but a better Harmonic balancer is needed as well. There's only a few that actually work well enough @ RPM and a Ford style unit is not 1 of em.
PRO250 1,506 Posted December 6, 2015 How much revs? This is a hemi roded engine hey? that makes them engine worse at revs hey we went thru this with my mates Cortina just seem to not be a well balanced engine his was so bad and he had a good balancer as that does solve a lot of the issues they have or has for me anywaywhen I did mine I used a big ruler to make sure the pulleys where in line
XF0747 69 Posted December 6, 2015 its already got a romac balancer on it yeh hemi rodded engine, as soon as you feed the power in and it starts turning the tyres and it hits the limiter at 6200 it'll spin the belt off i'm gonna get a ruler and see how level it is and just go from there
PRO250 1,506 Posted December 7, 2015 a set of 2.77s may fix your issue pull the engine down so to speakyou just want to give up keeping belts on crossys
Nath 1,975 Posted December 7, 2015 Manual steering would fix this problem 2 NZXD and Mr Polson reacted to this
slydog 7,873 Posted December 7, 2015 A romac IS NOT the balancer to use...they are quite shit TBH. I rebuilt and broached a 2nd key way in many a Romac balancer. None of the fast xflows run Romac's cos they don't work. Not been a prick George just saying how it is cos they are shit at best on a xflow. On your engine I'd like to see a underdiven Powerbond SFI unit or a ATI if money allows. Grimmy 312 Posted December 7, 2015 It sounds silly but don't over tighten the belt ! Only just is just enough Also , don't re use the belt once it's been chucked. It stretches the nylon in them . As far as balancers go . I still have a bog stock factory ford one on , I rev to 6600 and it don't chuck the belt . Lord knows why not tho . Rob will probably flame me for not using my powerbond unit , but it needs a rebuild ... Just looking at your pic , is the very front v-groove bolted on or part of the ballancer ? XF0747 69 Posted December 7, 2015 slydog you got a part number on the balancers you mentioned? i googled powerbond and it come up with a whole bunch of part numbers belt isnt over tightened and always use a new belt

gerg 10,871 Posted December 7, 2015 Pretty tight in there so I guess no chance of squeezing in an extra smaller diameter pulley on the front of the balancer?
XF0747 69 Posted December 18, 2015 yeh shes pretty tight in there looking into the powerbond balancer as suggested
