eattsie9 350 Posted January 21, 2015 Hey chaps I noticed that an earlier owner has just used a nut and washer as spacers for the shock tower. Is this good enough or is it gonna make things worse or too dodgy? Other words will it do? Cheers
tpak addict 1,909 Posted January 21, 2015 Got a pic or 2?
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 21, 2015 Sounds a bit dodgy as you've only got the space of the nut and washer holding up each of the three arms on the shock hat. A proper shock hat spacer will provide support to the whole of each arm.
eattsie9 350 Posted January 21, 2015 Will take some pics this arvo, and ye that's what I thought figured it gave space but no support. I'm right in saying no company makes these spacers right?
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 21, 2015 Not that I'm aware of. Might be able to pick them up on eBay, or Crazy on here was making and selling them (I think it was him)
eattsie9 350 Posted January 21, 2015 Cheers I'll have a poke around and see what I can come up with
tpak addict 1,909 Posted January 22, 2015 Uummm....... I think the washers & nuts are supposed to hold the bracket on..... Obviously just plonked on top...
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 22, 2015 Okay yeah, in that case the washers and nuts should be on top... there is nothing keeping your shock held down...
XF347 205 Posted January 23, 2015 I believe he is just showing the spacers. If you look closer there is no shock there, so obviously the nuts were removed to get it out. 3 Mr Polson, Outback Jack and eattsie9 reacted to this
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 23, 2015 Very good point, I didn't look that close. I still think it's a bit dodgy as those nuts aren't giving support to the whole shock hat leg. 1 XF347 reacted to this

Outback Jack 6,352 Posted January 27, 2015 Just out of interest........Why do you guys use a spacer there? Arms on mine bolt straight to the tower, no spacers. Jack.
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 27, 2015 You use spacers when you lower them to allow the shock to retain most of its movement. 1 Outback Jack reacted to this
Outback Jack 6,352 Posted January 27, 2015 Ok , cheers Polson, thought it was something like that, just wanted to check. Ta. Jack.
JETFTR 508 Posted January 27, 2015 White line sold these spacers a while back, not sure if they still make them. I have a set that I may not use as i kinda don't have shock towers anymore on my current project lol. Q also designed a good set that many members have, both designs gave an extra 20 or so mm of travel from memory? I can't remember as I haven't seen my set in 3 years lol. gerg 10,871 Posted January 27, 2015 Another approach: you could cut and shut two shock mounts to make one taller one, that's if you're a good welder/grinder and can make the welds invisible.
eattsie9 350 Posted January 28, 2015 Yep no hope of that only welding I've done was an hour of tack welding in year
