Need a cam recommendation

Im in the process of building up an LPG 4.1 for an old EFI ZK fairlane I have acquired and would like some advice on cam specs and mixer sizes, the car will be a cruiser and just a bit of fun, I was thinking of the following setup.

 

Impco 225 bolted to the EFI manifold, ditching all of the crummy old EFI gear and going straight gas.

The bottom end will be balanced and bored 60 thou, comp ratio will be 10:1, pacemaker header and a dual 2.5in system based on the EB XR6 series1 setup, dizzy will be regraphed or if I can score on a TFI dizzy kitted up with an MSD setup will be used.

 

Im not sure of the came specs or a suitable converter but I was think of a B2 for the converter and the following cams

 

Camtech CT142 503B-110(A)   208 DEG@.050

 

OR

 

Camtech CT142 517(A) 218 DEG@.050

 

I have heard that the impco 225 isn't much chop for top end power but will give decent torque in the lower and mid range when used with the EFI manifold, has anyone had any experience with this setup.

 

The car will retain the 3 speed auto but I am going to change the diff to a 3.23:1 ratio for a bit more pep.

 

Can any one recommend an LPG specialist in Wagga Wagga NSW.

 

Any infor would be greatly apprecieated.

Got one of these in my ute, its a lovely docile cam will be fine with an auto with no efi shit on it.  Mine is efi, but converted to a moates quarter horse and EL ecu to get it to behave.

 

Has a nice lope, comes on around 1500 rpm through to about 3k.  Anything more than 4k and your wasting your time.  The bottom end to midrange is where this cam is at.

 

The ct142-528 get a good rap from the guys on here I'm umping and aching about getting one of these or going v8 or going ohc with mine.

that's what i'm looking for something that delivers good bottom end and mid range, something for light to light rather than down a drag strip or race track and will give good economy out on the highway

I have the same set up in my xf ute b2 conv 225 mixer efi manifold motor was rebuilt only 30 tho over not 60 and fully ballanced the cam I can't remember but could find out if u like

The head I just had a bit of porting done n rebuild n runs 10-1 comp.

I also run msd ignition with a tfi dizzy it goes great

I run a t5 behind her with a 3.23 LSD diff gives all my mates a run for there money In there v6 commy utes

sounds good Perky, I ran the 218 cam in my XC with a 425 Impco on a 4bbl manifold and it was pretty strong in the upper rev range, but was pretty doughy round town but that probably had more to do with the stock auto and diff than anything.

I'm looking for some strong bottom end and mid range, I have no interest in flying to the moon in an old fairlane, that's what I got my FG for :D, the XC probably could make orbit as well, ran that old girl off the clock more than a few times.

Does that Camtech CT142 503B-110(A)  run out of puff at 3000 revs?

 

Sounds like rev range is similar to a stock cam, can't really rev a stocko past 3750...  Does that camtech cam keep the stock rev ranges, but adds more torque and power over the stock cam?

 

And did it use much more fuel?

rpm range for the 110(A) is from 1400 to 5000 so I would imagine it should be could to at least 4500 rpm maybe higher, the 517(A) cam that I had in my iron head was from 1800 to 5000 and pulled pretty good up 4500-4700 rpm, the engine would rev out to 5300rpm with a impco 425 no worries.

 

I think the 110(A) is reasonable step up from the stock cam while improving bottom end and mid range torque, the 517(A) is only slightly bigger and it was a pleasant cam for driveability.

 

Really just wanna find out if anyone has tried cams of these specs with the 225 mixer.

 

I would like to thank Perky for his help, he's been awesome for providing me with his cam specs and a few pics of his setup, his cam with is a crow 14776, if I recall is a dual pattern cam 204 deg in and 214 deg ex @50 thou is probably a wee bit smaller than the 110(A).

Yeah it goes pretty easy to 4200 but a bit trashy and gutless thereafter. But between 1500 and 4000 is fairly hauls, really nice driveability and economy which is actually good.

Yep. I have used that cam (208 deg one). Perfect FWY cam with 2.77 gears. I have used it with 3.27 gears as well and it works well. Goes to 4000rpm easily enough. You will have way more grunt below 2,200rpm with the EFI mani over the 4brl setup. 4brl is slightly better above 3000rpm. I have used both with this cam. You can go higher than 10:1 if you modify your ignition advance curve.

 

The 225 Impco is a perfect match for the cam and either a B2 or a model L Impco will work.
