Mustardxf2 310 Posted November 21, 2017 Has anyone had a problem with the bolt backing out? Motor has been reassembled twice and has happened both times! Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Valvebouncer 2,389 Posted November 21, 2017 Did you put locktite on it? 1 bear351c reacted to this
bear351c 10,271 Posted November 21, 2017 Never heard of that happening...... Not with the torque setting on the bolt. Whack a blob of BLUE Loctite on the thread. Squirt some Brakeleen into the crank snout, and clean off the bolt threads as well. HaHa beat me to it.......... 1 Valvebouncer reacted to this
Mustardxf2 310 Posted November 21, 2017 Yeah that's what I'm going to do, just didn't know wether it was common or I'm the only one.Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Valvebouncer 2,389 Posted November 21, 2017 I have heard of it in non crossflow engines when they were still fairly new but not in crossflows. Your lucky you caught it before the balancer started flogging out the crank
Mustardxf2 310 Posted November 21, 2017 That's what happen the first time it was built but the harmonic balancer had a crack in it and chewed both ends on the crank out. Going to go see the engine builder to cover my ass incase there is something else wrong again.Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk 1 Valvebouncer reacted to this
ando76 4,354 Posted November 21, 2017 Did someone say harmonics....... 1 Mustardxf2 reacted to this
ando76 4,354 Posted November 21, 2017 If the threads in the crank are fine, and the bolt (9/16 unf on early and metric crap on late model cranks) check out then I'd be looking at harmonics or just loctite it and hope. 1 Valvebouncer reacted to this
Mustardxf2 310 Posted November 21, 2017 Yeah will try the loctiteSent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
ando76 4,354 Posted November 21, 2017 Xd versions of these engines had no centre bolt from memory. I will stand corrected tho. We run extended 9/16unf bolts on the race motors for vac pump drive mandrels and ps pulleys and they never come undone. Hence my harmonics comment. I wasn't being a smart arse. Well maybe a little 1 Valvebouncer reacted to this
Mustardxf2 310 Posted November 21, 2017 Yeah definitely going back to the builder second time now even after its second rebuild and I don't want to fuck it it again because I'm not building in for the 3rd time aha Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk 2 Valvebouncer and ando76 reacted to this
LJDB 103 Posted November 21, 2017 Iv seen some without a bolt and the last time I tried taking a powerbond street balancer off it was a pain in the ass even with a puller. 1 matt_lamb_160 reacted to this
