P/s conversion

I'm trying to convert from power to NONpower steering and I'm wondering if the steering colum has to be changed aswell ? P/s colum looks 2" shorter

Anyone changed it before ?

Tap the end of the column up,simple as that.

It needs to come out , are the columns on a spline ?

No need to take the column out, with the steering box removed just tap the end of the column down as far as it need to go to mate up with the top of the box. A slide hammer would probably help a lot. 

 

I guess you could find an old ute without power steering to get the column out of.

Its easier with the column out, keep the wheel on it, put the wheel on the ground, stand on it, and using a hammer tap the flange that bolts to the steering coupling upwards.

Yep it's an interference fit, tap tap tappy. I tried for a while to get it to move without removing it but had to in the end. Alarm wiring aside it was pretty easy.

i done this conversion

i just slid the column down with a bit of pipe as a pry bar

but at that time i didn't care much about my ute as i had no intention of keeping it very long

hey guys just reviving this thread to ask if the idler arm for a power steer setup is a different length to a manual setup?  cheers

Idler arms are the same mate , pitman arms are different in the spline tho
