LJDB 103 Posted August 14, 2013 what would be the best/highest comp ratio to run on this sized camshaft. not sure on the manufacturer but i had it read by crow. inlet lift .502 exhaust lift .524 inlet duration at .050" 226, exhaust duration at .050" 234 lobe sep 110 advertised timing inlet open 25 close 65 exh open 69 close 29. any info would be good if anyone has used this size cam before. Clevo120Y 815 Posted August 14, 2013 9.5 would be my safe opinion
matt_lamb_160 252 Posted August 21, 2013 I think low tens would be pretty safe assuming you are using petrol. But mid to high 9s would be fine. The cam will pull from 2200rpm up to 5,000ish I think, but lift is low for duration. 1 slydog reacted to this

LJDB 103 Posted May 24, 2014 would there be much gain in changing cam to the crow 650 from the one stated above. http://www.crowcams.com.au/media/catalogues/19.0%20XF_all.pdf
matt_lamb_160 252 Posted May 25, 2014 14650 is a slightly better cam. But if I had what you have I wouldn't buy a 14650. If you are looking to buy one, Camtech make a similar, but better cam than the 14650. What are you doing with the car? 1 slydog reacted to this
LJDB 103 Posted May 25, 2014 The car is a Te cortina on club rego so doesnt get driven much. The reason i started this thread awhile ago was because i was having trouble with pinging and was planing on decomping the engine. Comp was around 11.1 before i put a head saver shim in to lower it to around 10.5. I asked about the 650 because im not to confident with the shim and a cam change might be a better way to drop the cylinder pressures.
matt_lamb_160 252 Posted May 26, 2014 Could try a: Camtech CT142510(a) http://www.camtechcams.com.au/ford_6cyl_xflow_hyd.html With good fuel and correct timing should be ok with 11:1. Is it manual or auto? If auto you will need a 2,500+ stall. Really want 3.23+ diff gears as well. Is there anything special about the head? You could just swap it or have the chamber relieved a bit? slydog 7,873 Posted May 26, 2014 Quintin runs the 517 in his mild EFI xflow powered XF to run 14.7 @ 92 MPH in a street based car on street tyres,no MT's and a 5 speed he drove 12 odd hrs to race with then 12 hr's home again.Beat alot of cars that weekend in it he did... LJDB 103 Posted May 26, 2014 manual with 3.7s, the head has had bit of porting thats why i dont want to change it. i asked a local head shop about relieving the chambers and they said it wouldnt drop it much. its a early d head with a heap taken off. matt_lamb_160 252 Posted May 26, 2014 D as in it has a D on the side of it near the intake? If so a fair amount of material can be removed from the chambers. If you go the Camtech you will want roller rockers. 1 slydog reacted to this
matt_lamb_160 252 Posted May 26, 2014 I was going to run the 517 before I decided to turbo. Kind if wish I just cammed it.
slydog 7,873 Posted May 26, 2014 Thing about Q's times is on a perfect hook up it's a 14.3 sec car for what is a pretty mild set up really.
XFGHIA747 76 Posted May 26, 2014 I ran a custom camtech 520a-110 545in-ex cant think of rest of specs loved it had great power up top between 1800-5800 YT roller rockers ran fine with 10:1 on 95+ slightly worked ports only done self made good difference 153rwkw on good tune, running 465 holley.. wagoon 2,429 Posted May 27, 2014 Would a solid cam bleed more comp off than the hydraulic cam? If the car is only a weekend car and you are going to have to get new lifters and upgrade to roller rockers if you up the lift on a hydraulic anyway. 1 slydog reacted to this
slydog 7,873 Posted May 27, 2014 Well lobe sep and duration have a bigger impact then cam type but I agree solid will produce better results for sure.
LJDB 103 Posted May 27, 2014 I already have non adjustable YT rollers. What is camtechs pricing like. I have easy access to crow as I work near by, last time I was there I think it was about $500 for a cam, lifter and timing chain set.
wagoon 2,429 Posted May 27, 2014 Is the OP more likely to find a cam that bleeds off more comp in the solid range? Probably should have asked it that way first. LJBD do you have a limitation on how lumpy you want the idle? Would you go a solid cam?
matt_lamb_160 252 Posted May 27, 2014 Last time I checked Camtech were cheaper than Crow and they will ship the cam to you. Hope your bottom end is good. 2 slydog and nos2 reacted to this
slydog 7,873 Posted May 27, 2014 Non adjustable rollers mean no solid cam just a hyd unit. And yes Camtech have better suited cams for a xflow and cheaper. 1 matt_lamb_160 reacted to this
nos2 751 Posted May 27, 2014 Camtech also have a lot of profiles not listed 1 slydog reacted to this
